Adopt a Senior Project Catholic Charities
Of Southwest Louisiana Diocese of Lake Charles
Catholic Charities would like to invite our parish to participate in their Adopt-A-Senior project. Each year they seek out the loneliest in our communities; the el-derly who have no families to provide for them at Christmas. They match each with a generous donor who provides Christmas gifts of food, clothing, or may-be a few little luxuries. What they ask of us is to email or call in to the office, 3-5 names of seniors in our par-ish who meet this criteria. They will contact them by phone to fill out a wish list, provide this list to a donor, and then let us know when the gifts are ready so we may deliver them to our parishioner. In the past Catho-lic Charities has provided things such as bed linens, clothes, robes and slippers, and even a new set of car tires. One senior was in need of custom shoes for his orthopedic problem and Catholic Charities were able to provide them for him. He cried as he was having to choose between paying his electric bill or purchasing the much needed shoes. With our help they can reach the neediest of our seniors during this most blessed sea-son. The deadline for submitting names is Friday, Novem-ber 20. All gifts will be wrapped and ready for delivery on Thursday, December 17. Please take a few minutes to identify some of the needy elderly in our parish.
"Woman 360°- A Body of Worth" Mother/Daughter Workshop
Learn how beautifully God has designed our bodies as women, the gift of our fertility, how to guard that
gift from impurities and properly chart cycles. Scientific facts are interlaced with Scriptural Truth. Empower her with the knowledge that will aid in the prevention of abortions, STIs, and broken hearts as
we learn how to cherish God's Divine plan for her life, love and legacy. Invest in her future so she can be
equipped to better respect, protect and preserve the gift of her fertility!
This program is presented by your local pro-life pregnancy resource center, New Life Counseling,
free of charge. Our center is supported by the Diocese of Lake Charles since its inception.
All of New Life Counseling's mission and teaching is in alignment with Catholic Church teachings.
Prayer for Hurricane Safety
O God, Master of this passing world, hear the humble voices of your children. The Sea of Galilee obeyed your order and returned to its former quie-tude. You are still the Master of the land and sea. We live in the shadow of a danger over which we have no control: the Gulf, like a provoked and an-gry giant, can awake from its seeming lethargy and overstep its conventional boundaries, invade our land and spread chaos and disaster. During this hurricane season, we turn to You, O loving Father. Spare us from past tragedies whose memories are still so vivid and whose wounds seem to refuse to heal with the passing of time. O Virgin, Star of the Sea, Our Beloved Mother, we ask you to plead with your son in our behalf, so that spared from the calamities common to this area and animated with a true spirit of gratitude, we walk in the footsteps of your Divine Son to reach the heavenly Jerusalem where stormless eternity awaits us. Amen.
