Please join us in reciting the Rosary every morning (Mon-Sat) at 7:35am before daily Mass. It’s a beautiful and spiritual way to start your day. Every day following weekday Mass, we invite you to join us for the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. Prayers usually start approximately 5-10 minutes after Mass (around 8:40am). If you can’t join us, you can join the Divine Mercy on EWTN television channel at noon.

BIBLE STUDY CANCELLED Dear Bible Study Group: Greetings from Fr. Bernard. Hope everyone is doing well. After consulting Fr. Antony regarding the ongoing global and local situation of Coronavirus spread and taking into account the concerns and safety of everyone, I would like to inform you that we are cancelling our bible study for the time being. Hopefully you understand the reason behind the cancellation which I hate to do after seeing your eagerness for the bible study, I think this Lenten season has become a real testing period for more kneeling i guess. Let us be convinced of God's control of our situation. Please take care of yourself without panicking. Until further notice, our bible study will stand cancelled. I don't want to leave you free though. I have an idea of sending the class material for your personal reading and reflection - A Biblical and Spiritual Quarantine at home. You will receive the lesson on Thursday morning. The lesson will be a thematic one for this Thursday: Biblical and Prayerful Response to Cornavirus disease. Let us stay tuned and make fervent prayers for the affected people and countries that our Lord may deliver us from this panicking situation towards peace.

LENTEN REFLECTION

LENTEN TREE OF SACRIFICE WHAT ARE YOU GIVING UP AND

OFFERING DURING THIS LENTEN SEASON? Our Lenten Tree of Sacrifice is located in the back at the Vestibule. Please take a tag off the tree, and reflect on your sacrifice for our Lord Jesus Christ.

Each time today’s Gospel story is read, I can’t help but think of the many television commercials I’ve seen depicting perspiring athletes lifting a beverage to their lips while the scorching sun beats down on them. Our culture has definite ideas about how to quench thirst. Today, those ideas are turned upside down. The Samaritan woman operates, initially, on the TV commercial level. She asks Jesus for the flowing water so that she will not have to keep coming to the well. Jesus then talks about what real thirst is, and how he, and he alone, can quench that thirst. Lent calls us to find those places deep within ourselves where we thirst. In our thirst, as did the Israelites, we cry out to God asking for springs of living water. Deep down we know that only the Lord can satisfy these thirsts. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

ONLINE FAITH DIRECT During Lent, we prepare ourselves through prayer and giving back to our parish. But, with busy lives and active families, it's easy to skip a weekly tithe when you are unable to attend Mass or out of town. This Lent, I want to invite you in joining me and many others at St. Barnabas in setting up recurring eGiving though Faith Direct. Thanks to eGiving, your weekly offertory will be automatically taken care of, which saves you time and saves our parish money by eliminating all those unused offertory envelopes. Getting started is easy! Visit faith.direct/CA794, or text the word ENROLL to (Text-to-Give Phone Number). Call 1-866-507-8757 or visit www.faithdirect.net. You can download the free Faith Direct App today! Thank you for your continued support of our parish family. -Antony Gaspar, Pastor

WELCOME TO OUR PARISH! We welcome all newcomers to the neighborhood and those who have been attending our Sunday Eucharistic Celebrations. We encourage you to come to the Parish Office and register as a member of our Parish. Registration forms available at the exits of the Church, or stop by the Parish Office or print a form from our website at: www.stbarnabaslb.org If you’d like to receive free contribution envelopes, let us know and we can add you to the mailing list! Reminder to use your Name and Parish Family # on all loose contribution envelopes and checks, if you’d like to get credit for your tax donations If you forgot your #, call the Parish Office for assistance.

DID YOU KNOW? Be aware of poison dangers in the home

More than 90% of all poisonings happen in homes. Parents should know the top risks for children (especially children who still put things in their mouths!) and work to eradicate them. Lead poisoning is high on the list, especially for older homes with lead paint or dust. Button batteries are small and shiny and lurk in many toys and

electronics that litter our homes. Swallowing these can be deadly for children. The same is true of household cleaners like laundry or dishwasher detergent pods. For more information, visit https://www.nsc.org/home-safety/safety-topics/other-poisons.

SAINT BARNABAS SCHOOL Sunday: Third Sunday of Lent Tuesday: St. Patrick Wednesday: St. Cyril of Jerusalem Thursday: St. Joseph; Spring begins Friday: Abstinence

SAINT JOSEPH, HUSBAND OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY March 19 Joseph, someone once joked, was indeed the perfect husband: the only major character in Jesus’ story who never utters a word! But the Gospel recounts and the liturgy celebrates his silent witness of faith-filled deeds: “With a husband’s love he cherished Mary, the Virgin Mother of God; with fatherly care he watched over Jesus” (Preface of Saint Joseph, Sacramentary). Catholic devotion, therefore, hails him as patron-protector of the universal Church. Some cultures set a festive “Saint Joseph’s Table,” welcoming the poor and strangers to feast with family and friends. Tradition keeps today as the anniversary of his death, which we presume was peaceful, with Jesus and Mary present. Thus, Catholics invoke Joseph as Patron of a Happy Death. Descended from David’s house, which God finished “building” through Joseph’s provision of a home for Mary and Jesus, he was, fittingly, a carpenter by trade; thus, patron of workers. Spring, nature’s rebirth, begins between his feast and Annunciation (March 25), appropriately, since Joseph’s silent obedience and Mary’s “Let it be done to me according to your word” (Luke 1:38) usher in humanity’s spiritual rebirth. —Peter Scagnelli, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

HOLY HUMOR A little girl was sitting on her grandfather's lap as he read her a bedtime story. From time to time, she would take her eyes off the book and reach up to touch his wrinkled cheek. She was alternately stroking her own cheek, then his again. Finally she spoke up, "Grandpa, did God make you?" "Yes, sweetheart” he answered, "God made me a long time ago”. "Oh” she paused, "Grandpa, did God make me too?" "Yes, indeed, honey;' he said, "God made you just a little while ago.” Feeling their respective faces again, the little girl observed, "God's getting better at it, isn't He?"
