    ASSESSMENT INSTRUCTIONS

    ResourcesYou must complete this assessment without access to the rules or procedures manuals.

    ValidationThe trainer/assessor will supervise your completion of the assessment. Using resources or assistance other than that provided forthe purposes of assessment will invalidate your attempt and you will be deemed as not yet competent for that attempt.

    SignaturesBoth the assessor and candidate MUST sign the front of the assessment paper. These signatures confirm that pre-assessmentdetails were provided to the candidate prior to the assessment being conducted and that the assessment process was valid.

    Achieving competenceCompetence for written assessments will be determined by a grading system where 80% of the total possible marks needs to beachieved.

    Each candidate is afforded three (3) assessment attempts. They will be provided targeted coaching/training between each attempt.The assessment tool used will vary for each assessment attempt.

    The process RailCorp trainers will use to determine competence is as follows:

    Competence (C) = 80%

    Further evidence requirement/Informal Assessment Review and Re-grading conducted = 70% - 79%

    Not Yet Competent (NYC) = 69%

    Further Evidence Requirement/Informal Assessment Reviews are conducted on the same day the assessment was administeredfor those who achieved a mark between 70% - 79%. This opportunity is provided for candidates where Language, Literacy &

    Numeracy (LLN), English as a Second Language (ESL) or other learning issues may have affected their understanding of thequestions asked.

    - Only competencies where incorrect answers were given will be re-assessed.

    - The trainer will NOT provide coaching or re-training in the content of the course during an Informal Assessment Review.

    - The trainer will provide assistance by re-reading questions, clarifying questions, re-phrasing questions and wherenecessary seek and accept verbal responses and scribe answers for the candidate.

    Those deemed Not Yet Competent after the third (3 rd) attempt will have their individual progress and course of action consideredand determined by either a Review Panel or the relevant Business Group.
