A Lowcountry Adventure Club

Page 2: Retreatat hirdislandfinal

Retreat at Hird IslandJust north of Georgia’s exclusive Golden Isles lies a stretch of coastal wetlands and barrier islands free from development. Envisioned to be an all-inclusive, enchanting basecamp for guided or unguided coastal adventures, the Retreat at Hird Island will be made up of 10 members who yearn to get out and really experience what our Georgia low-country and protected barrier islands have to offer. In addition, as this 3.4 acre property was bought in 2007 for $1.2 million and is now under contract for $429,000, this is an opportunity to acquire an amazing property at a price last seen in the 1970s.

Retreat at Hird Island

Reachable only by boat, the island club property is a 6 mile boat ride from Blue-N-Haul Marina in Darien, GA. If it’s low-tide, you can stop and pick your own oysters on the way out. The winding tidal creeks keep the sea quiet. Even on windy days, it’s a smooth trip.

Hird Island is a 200 acre barrier island with about 20 creekfront houses. The vast majority of the island is filled with live oaks and coastal pines draped in Spanish Moss. The waters and forests on and around Hird Island are teeming with wildlife.

The Retreat at Hird Island is at the south end of the island shown here with the red outline.

The National Wildlife Refuges on Sapelo, Blackbeard and Little St. Simons Island are a short boat ride away and secure unspoiled 180+ degree views for generations to come.

The property sits on 3.4 acres. There is an existing 2-story, deepwater dock in need of some very minor repairs as well as the beautiful, 1,360 sq. ft. old growth cedar cabin with a wrap around porch.

The CabinThe cabin sits out on the eastern most point of the property. This panorama will not change as these barrier islands are protected wildlife refuges.

The wrap-around porch is utter relaxation night or day, rain or shine.

All of the old growth cedar was milled just for the lodge and there is a lot left, appropriately stacked in the barn.

Great old red tractor, golf cart, flatbed truck included and will run with little repairs.

Stand-Up paddling in the smooth tidal creeks or off the beach is a great workout. And paddling with a surging tide through the windy narrow marsh creeks is a lot of fun!

Grab your own seafood… fish, shrimp & oysters are what’s for dinner within minutes of the club.

The forest is just as alive as the sea… check out these Spanish Ossabaw pigs looking for acorns on the property. They were brought to the New World by the Spanish over 400 years ago.
