RETINAL IMAGING In order to provide you with the most thorough comprehensive eye exam possible, while adhering closely to all COVID-19 health and safety protocols: Metro Eye's doctors advise all patients to have Ultra-Wide Retinal Photography performed yearly. Although Ultra-Wide Photos are typically not a replacement for dilation, this technology helps to decrease the frequency in which dilation is required- which is invaluable in reducing contact during COVID-19 without compromising the thorough nature of your eye exam. In conjunction with your eye exam procedure, a technician will photograph your retina using a non-invasive diagnostic tool called the CLARUS 500 Ultra-Wide Fundus Camera. An Ultra-Wide Retinal Image allows for a 200-degree stationary view of your retina, which in the past could only be examined after a patient’s pupils were dilated. Ultra-Wide Retinal Imaging is not covered by your insurance and can be performed at an additional charge of $39. You will be asked to accept and authorize that Ultra-Wide Retinal Imaging will be included with your eye exam, in order for the Metro Eye team to provide the safest method of examining your retinal health during the current pandemic.
