DESCRIPTION

Presented to the ALPMA (SA Branch) in July 2014 “The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn and relearn” - Alvin Tofler Many organisations face a similar dilemma - linking learning to organisational performance. Advancements in mobile technology and adaptive learning platforms can change this and offer organizations insight they currently lack. In this session we will explore some of the benefits of shifting the weighting from its traditional skew towards ‘learning’ to focus as needed on ‘unlearning’ and ‘relearning’. The future of learning is exciting and full of opportunity – and for organisations who want to thrive into the future, disruptive thinking in this area can create significant competitive advantage. The future is about insight, experimentation, discovery and connection using emerging technology.

Learning,  Unlearning  &  Relearning

•  Learning  will  be  con:nuous  not  episodic

•  Learning  opportuni:es  will  be  more  important  than  learning  ins\tu\ons

•  Learning  will  be  embedded  into  everyday  sedngs  &  interac\ons

•  Learners  will  independently  dip  in  &  out  of  learning  flows

•  Learning  resources  will  be  abundant  &  widely  available

•  Learning  plaforms  will  be  mobile  &  adap:ve.

Different  types  of  thinking

System  1  –  Fast,  intui\ve  and  emo\onal.    Automa\c  pilot.    Quick  decisions  or  judgements.

System  2  –  Slower,  more  deliberate  and  more  logical.    Kicks  in  when  system  1

doesn’t  fit.

"Humans  more  easily  remember  or  learn  items  when  they  are  studied  a  few  \mes  over  a  long  period  of  \me  (spaced  presenta\on),  rather  than  studied  repeatedly  in  a  short  period  of  \me  (massed  presenta\on)."

“learners  of  the  future  will  demand  the  learning  support  that  is  appropriate  for  their  situa\on  or  context.  Nothing  more.  Nothing  less.  And  they  want  it  at  the  moment  the  need  arises.  Not  sooner.  Not  later.  Mobiles  will  be  a  key  technology  to  provide  that  learning  support."                            Dr.  Marcus  Specht

"Most  work  based  mLearning  happens  in  stolen  moments,  which  is  why  a  smooth  blend  between  learning,  performance  support  and  produc\vity  tool  is  so  key.”

"The  only  sustainable  compe\\ve  advantage  is  the  ability  to  learn  and  apply  the  right  stuff  faster.”
