RETA’s 2014 National Conference offers you a four-day educational extravaganza — providing youwith an opportunity for GROWTH THROUGH EDUCATION.

Following is a ready-reference roster of the many programs offered this year in Atlanta. As you workyour way through this packet of information you’ll discover more in-depth descriptions of our reviewcourses and hands-on workshops. The technical lecture sessions speak for themselves.

What makes our program one you won’t want to miss? RETA is the only association in the industrycurrently offering hands-on training at a national conference.

And, of course, all attendees will receive a complete set of technical papers in PDF format. Don’tforget to pick up the daily Conference Chronicle — each one contains yet another technical paperin short form.

be doubly safe

Honeywell Analytics introduces the EC-FX-NH3, an ammonia leak detector with a tougher, longer-lasting sensor for industrial refrigeration. How tough is it? So tough we’re backing it with a two-year warranty that’s double the current industry standard. EC-FX-NH3 is ideal for rugged Cold Storage, Refrigerated Process Areas and Engine Rooms.

EC-FX-NH3 draws its advantage from a breakthrough, proprietary sensing technology that creates a new standard for reliability and performance in ammonia leak detection. In cold storage and freezers, replace the EC-FX-NH3 sensor every three to four years instead of the industry-standard two years; or in engine rooms, every two to three years instead of the typical six to 18 months cycle. You spend less time changing, calibrating and maintaining the sensor—while the facility you service saves up to $2500 per unit over a ten-year period, in engine rooms alone. Install the EC-FX-NH3, and experience the next generation in ammonia gas detection.

CIRO AND CARO CERTIFICATION MAINTENANCE

The RETA Code of Conduct requires all RETA certificate holders to participate inappropriate certification and training activities to acquire, demonstrate andmaintain their competence in the refrigeration industry. Each RETA certificateexpires three years after it is issued. Recertification candidates may establishthat their knowledge and skills are still current for their level of RETA certifica-tion either by taking the current examination for that classification or byproviding RETA with the required documentation of his/her qualifications forrecertification.

Professional development hours can be earned by documenting participation inprofessional training related to RETA certification at RETA Chapter meetings, the RETA annual National Conference, employer-sponsored training andrefrigeration training seminars. Procedures for documenting training credits toapply for recertification are available on the RETA website at:http://www.reta.com/pages/recertification.

A minimum of 24 PDH must be earned during the renewal period.

During your attendance at the 2014 RETA National Conference you may earnup to 15 professional development hours (PDH). Attendees may earn anadditional 16 PDH by attending either the Refrigeration Review Course or theCertified Refrigeration Energy Specialist (CRES) Review Course.

You must sign in at each session you attend at the Conference. Without yoursignature on the form, RETA will not include the class or PDH in your certificateof attendance — no exceptions.

Does your current refrigeration control system

provide the functionality required for efficient

operations? Wouldn’t it be great to have the latest

technology available installed within your budget

constraints? Good News! It probably can be!

If your current system utilizes standard

industry I/O components (Opto22, AB,

etc...), we can bring your system up to date

by simply installing one of our Signal Server

Technology industrial controllers.

That’s right; you can have a system with all

the modern bells and whistles by simply

using one of our servers to take over your

existing equipment. If you’re concerned

about the reliability of re-used components,

you can simply replace them as your budget

allows. In most cases, even the sensors can

be re-used.

Skeptical? We have provided these services

to over a hundred happy customers. The

best part is that as technology continues to

change, our systems can usually be cost-

effectively upgraded remotely once again

saving you thousands of dollars.

Still skeptical? Ask the people around you

during the show. It won’t be hard to find our

customers during a refrigeration industry

conference.

HANDS-ONWORKSHOPS

Attendance at theseprograms is on afirst-registered; first-served basis. Seatingfor each class is limited to 16 people (unless otherwisenoted). Each class will be presented a minimum ofthree times during the Conference. Class registrantswill be provided with a nontransferable ticket thatmust be presented to the class moderator at the timethe session begins. Each lead instructor will beaccompanied by two assistants. On-site enrollment inthe hands-on classes may not be available. Once aclass is filled, enrollment is locked and set. No exceptions.

LIQUID FEED LINE BREAK EXERCISE

By using a written SOP, a liquid feed group is madesafe for servicing. It will be opened, serviced andrestored to operation.

OIL DRAINING WORKSHOP

Oil that collects in the heat exchangers drasticallyreduces system capacity. Oil draining accidents arecommon. In this workshop students are taught aboutthe function and features of an oil drain vessel.Following an SOP, each student will successfully drainoil from a pressurized system.

DUAL BACK PRESSURE REGULATOR ADJUSTING WORKSHOP

Achieving the desired temperature of the air comingoff an air unit or water temperature of a chiller isdependent on control of the evaporating pressure. Theback pressure regulator maintains the pressure of therefrigerant. A variety of regulators are reviewed andadjusted by the students to settings required by theinstructor. Correlation between pressure andtemperature is reinforced throughout the session.

RELIEF VALVE REPLACEMENT WORKSHOP

Setting the position of the 3-way valve in the correctposition is essential to safe replacement of relief valveson an active system. Each student will experiencesetting the spool of the 3-way valve and removing/replacing a relief valve from a charged system.

REFRIGERANT CHARGING WORKSHOP

This session will focus on proper steps following anSOP to receive ammonia at your facility and transferinto your system. This hands-on session will feature useof charging hoses, fittings, tools and basic PPE.Participants will be expected to follow the stepsoutlined in the SOP and receive, connect anddisconnect from the equipment.

LIQUID TRANSFER SYSTEM WORKSHOP

Attendees will learn the ins and outs on how a dumpsystem operates. Depending upon your plantarrangement, there are different types of dump systemsthat might work better than others in your facility. Wewill also teach you techniques on trouble shootingyour dump system. This will take out the worry andheadaches when your system has problems.

HANDS-ON COMPRESSOR WORKSHOP

This five-hour, hands-on class will include an overviewof the similarities and differences in the operationsand internal configurations of roller bearing andjournal sleeve bearing compressors. A history ofcarnage and failures will be viewed and causesanalyzed. Attendees will be able to inspect the actualfailures and results. Once the parts and machinesections are examined, the class will be split into twogroups.

GROUP A: COMPRESSOR DECONSTRUCTION & SLIDE VALVES

An instructor will guide a group through takingapart of a slide stop/slide valve assembly. The unit isconfigured to:

– view the internals from the outside– review how it works and goes together– view the parts that make up the assembly.

The group will also take apart a journal bearingmachine and go over the internal porting andimportance of clearances. Attendees of this class willhave a hand-on role at taking apart the machineand discussion over the various parts.

GROUP B: SHAFT SEAL TRAINING

An instructor will guide individuals in groups of twothrough the installation and parts of a shaft seal. Each pair of attendees will have an opportunity toinstall a training seal with direction from aninstructor. This will include proper handling of theseals, cleaning of the housing, lubrication require-ments, setting and completing the seal installation.
