A poor widow also came and put in two small coins worth a few cents. Calling his disciples to himself, he said to them, “Amen, I say to you, this poor widow put in more
than all the other contributors to the treasury.” —Mk 12:42-43

Stewardship Reflection Thirty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time
In today’s Gospel we hear the familiar story of the poor widow
who Jesus watched as she put two small coins into the
treasury. Comparatively, Jesus watched as many rich people
put large sums of money in. Yet, Jesus praises the poor widow
for her gift because she gave from her poverty, whereas the
rich people gave from their surplus. We have often heard the
phrase, “God loves a joyful giver,” but perhaps this Gospel
passage shows what this phrase truly involves. The word
“sacrifice” is often associated with the idea of giving
something up, which for some suggests pain, suffering or
discomfort. But a sacrifice is actually an offering, in which we
give back a portion of what has been entrusted to our care.
The poor widow recognized that what little she had was
actually a gift that had been given to her from God’s bounty.
Before taking account of what she could afford to give to God,
she first considered what God had given to her to begin with.
Likewise, let us not consider what we can “afford” to give, but
instead share with a spirit of gratitude and generosity.
Parish Life
Children’s Choir Singers are still needed for the Christmas choir! Enrollment
has been extended through Monday, Nov. 8, with practice
starting Thursday, Nov. 11. Schedule and application are
available on the Parish website under "Music Ministry.” Return
application to the school or church office, or email to Parish
music director David Dondlinger.
Adult Education: God’s Recipe for a Wonderful Life We will try again from the beginning on
Monday, Nov. 8 at 6:30 pm with light
snacks. No one has missed anything!
God's Recipe For A Wonderful Life is an 11-week program with
a purpose of instilling "a desire to know God and His
Commandments" and to "restore and awaken within us what
these commandments are and discover the joy and authentic
freedom that they offer to us."
If any parish member would like to register to watch at home
with family and friends, that is great too! The code is
CCR65610. It does expire; it is only valid through August 13,
2022. Please check out this link for a trailer video:
http://www.ifuloveme.org/previewdres.
Gifted to Serve The Stewardship Council is excited to present
our Gifted to Serve initiative. It is a quick
assessment you can take to determine where
your gifts could best be used to serve our
parish community. You can take the
assessment by scanning the QR code or through this link:
https://form.jotform.com/211995777135973.

Sacraments, receiving the grace of forgiveness
in Confession and actually receiving Jesus in
Holy Communion! We will have a Parents ONLY

second grade, please plan to attend.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd By Sharon Hagan
We currently have classes with preschool through
5th graders. We are hoping to have more
catechists trained in our program in order to
accommodate more homeschoolers and allow
school students to come to the atrium more often. Several
catechists in our diocese met with the national director, Mary
Marrione, on Saturday, Oct. 30. It was rewarding to network
with those from other parishes. We are blessed to have our
atrium, as it can be challenging to set up in some parishes.
Christ is our Good Shepherd, but He passed this role on to His
apostles and future priests. Our Church is built on both
tradition and scripture. Even St. John the Apostle said all that
Jesus Christ said and did could not be recorded; so much
happened. John expanded on the 2 main parables that we
emphasize in the program: the Good Shepherd and the Vine
and the Branches. Even as many times as I have read these
parables or Psalm 23, there is often something new that
speaks to me, something I didn't notice before. Let us
remember, "Even though I walk in the valley of darkness, I fear
no evil. For He is there with His rod and staff to comfort me."
Ps.23:4. This makes me think of a cardinal virtue often
overlooked: temperance. It is temperance (or moderation) that
keeps us in check. It is temperance that helps us to curb our
tongue, to refrain from overindulgence, to practice humility
(and recognize God's omnipotence). It is also temperance that
helps a weak person become a saint. Temperance is like the
rod, steering us correctly. The staff is like a flag, the Shepherd
saying 'Here I am'. The Good Shepherd says, 'Come to me and I
will lead you to fresh, life giving water.' God is love and He
seeks us. The children love the image of the lamb being placed
lovingly across the shoulders of the Good Shepherd.
Pray for Vocations The Diocese of Wichita has been blessed with vocations to the
Priesthood and Religious. We are grateful to God for their
commitment.
Each month a Vocation Calendar is printed with a name or
intention on each day of the month for prayers. The calendar is
available outside the Adoration chapel and in the media center
in the church foyer. We hope it will help you to pray for our
many wonderful Priests and Religious.
Thank You! A tremendous thank you to all of the parishioners who
participated in the recent Clean Up Day! Seventeen young and
not as young people came and cleaned up the grounds,
repaired items and cleared gardens. One big project was
clearing the garden in front of the school. The tree, dead bush
and evergreen ground cover were removed, making way for a
new garden to be installed. Suggestions for what to plant are
welcome!
