Texas Health Plano August 2015 – December 2015Speech-language pathology intern in acute/inpatient rehabilitation. Provided clinical evaluation and treatment to patients by obtaining and interpreting pertinent medical history and chart information. Performed bedside swallow, speech/language, and cognitive evaluations. Developed appropriate individualized care plans with functional outcomes. Communicated results and recommendations to patients and their families as well as other medical professionals on their care team. Conducted Modified Barium Swallow studies with radiology and provided interpretation of results and diet modifications to patients. Developed positive professional relationships with other THP staff to facilitate efficient and successful patient care.

Walnut Place May 2015 – August 2015Provided evaluation and treatment to adults receiving therapy in a skilled nursing facility. Conducted bedside swallow and oral mechanism examinations to assess for possible swallowing disorders as well as monitored and adjusted diet modifications for patients with dysphagia. Provided individual speech-language and cognitive retraining therapy for patients with diagnoses including but not limited to dementia, traumatic brain injury, CVA, and cervical spinal cord injury. Developed clinical proficiency in analysis of patient medical chart information and history, interpretation of Modified Barium Swallow study results, determining appropriate plan of care, electronic documentation of daily and weekly progress, and collaboration with other medical professionals and nursing staff to ensure effective intervention.

Baylor Institute for Rehabilitation August 2014 – December 2014Provided individual assessment and intervention within a group therapy setting to adults with aphasia and cognitive-communication disorders. Patient diagnoses included traumatic brain injury, CVA, right hemisphere impairment, and anoxia. Developed clinical skills related to the medical setting such as patient transport, analyzing patient information and reading medical charts in order to plan for intervention appropriately.
