Design Judge: Judged and critiqued professional entries in the 2010 Pennsylvania Press Association Newspaper of the Year competition. Selected a winner in layout and design for each circulation category.

Curriculum Development: Committee worked with Tomorrow’s Workforce to develop and implement a professional development curriculum for all members of The News & Observer newsroom. Courses included artistic and technical skills, inspiration and organizational skills. Recruitment of instructors, development of courses and curriculum, promotion and accountability guidelines. Completion of the program factored into annual employee evaluations. Completed management- training courses through the HR department as part of this program. VolunteerAnimal shelter, foster parent: Weekly shelter volunteer as a puppy or dog matchmaker from 2010 to 2013. Helped visitors to the SPCA find the right animal for their family and answered questions about the organization. Provided customer service and care to the animals. Completed training in dog handling and basic dog training. As a foster parent, I provide animals with a safe and loving environment as they prepare for adoption. In 2012, I fostered “Charlie”, a Chihuahua seized from a puppy mill bust in Jones County, NC. It was my first cruelty case. Charlie had never been held, or felt grass under his feet or played with a toy. In the three months that he lived with me, I rehabilitated him into a loving, playful, trusting companion. He was immediately adopted and found his forever home.

Medical volunteer: Weekly volunteer at the SPCA Spay & Neuter clinic in 2012. Washed, sterilized and prepared surgical packs for dog and cat spay and neuter surgeries. Assisted with laundry, cleaning and moving animals into rehabilitation areas.
