Biggest problem for selling apps is that the option for paid apps is only available for some countries, e.g. not Switzerland. The

AndroidAPI for e.g.the cameraand media istoofragmented and incomplete.

Android market toolsfor developers it'ssoshabby,we need statisticsfor example:)

    Android markethasalongwaytogrow.

There are very poor wayto broadcast my apps. Android Market is advatage system for unstable frequent updating developers

than some stable relese ones. They are earn download count by frequency update. It is not open uninstall reason. SHould have

to open it for developes to increase motivation and quality improvement.

I think there are a few things I would like seen to get fixed. Like some features do not work across all plaforms of android

phones. ? Such as the setting up of proxy fuction. the code is there to set it up but some phones like nexus ignore the settings?

Developing software for the Android platform is easier than developing for other mobile platforms (iPhone, backberry, etc.)

The cost for development tools is free, the technology is open and standard (java + eclipse).

One of the biggest reasons I develop for android is because of its flexibility and exposure to the devices it runs on. Given the

permission a developer can access nearly all the functionality of the device as well as tune it to work on a wide range of devices

with reasonable effort. For instance you can start an app on a phone but scale it down to work on an eReader for instance or

    even a media player.

In Switzerland developers are still not allowed to sell applications from the Market. It's why I only focussed on "hobby"

    develppement for now.

I hope Android Market and Developer Console are getting better.

These handy and very personal computers, that also happen to be telephones and have a suite of useful sensors, add up to a

little bit more than the sum of their parts. I mean this for me technically but also for the non-technical purchasers of these

devices whom I speak with on every opportunity. There is something extra about them, something right, for me the producer

and for everyone I speak to when I see them using one.

The biggest problem that android has is the lack of marketing visa vis iPhone. Companies using the android platform have

done little to promote apps. Also Googlesinsistence of not providing an app store listing all apps available like Apple reduces

opportunit ies for sales. Needs to be fixed.

    Android is awesome!

The low quality of the market interface as well as the lack of any sort of demographics are the only real downsides to

    developing for Android.

Google-API changes in detail with every new SDK (exaggerated) :-(

Google should allow the sale of paid apps in Brazil ... not available yet ...

I feel that there should be pieces of code of sample for using the API in the android SDK documentation.

I suggest you the strong need for the possibility for buying and selling apps in countries where it is not currently possible (e.g.

    Norway)

I create primarily iPhoneapps. With the success of this app (CORE) on the iPhone i thought I would have similar results with the

same app on the Android platform, but not even close. The android version has even more features then the iPhone, sells for 25%

less, and has less then 1 /20th of the sales that the iPhone version. Several things could be the case. These are medical apps (I am

a doctor) and the use of iPhonesin the medical community i believe has a significantly larger market share than other smart

phones. So although the android marketshare overall may be growing, in the medical community this may not be the case. Also

the price may deter some people, but even at 30$ it is still $10 cheaper then the iPhoneversion. The content is definitely worth

that if not more, as iPhone downloads would attest to. It's difficult to think it is the quality of the app because it is highly rated in

the iPhone app store and over last 7 months has had consistent daily sales. The android version has yet to reach double digit

sales in almost 45 days since it's release, a number that the iPhoneversion could reach in 1 good day or at worse 1 week. This

makes me think twice about the t ime and effort required to port other apps to Android. At this time I'm not seeing it as a

worthwhile investment. Additionally the variability in hardware, version, and user error magnified with this, it has definitely been

a challenge to keep the app bug-free

Google REALLY needs to do something to stop piracy- IF they told us more information during google checkout (I.E. - google

account identifier) we could lock the programs to only operate on certain phones... Right now my apps have been stolen and

placed on a pirate site for $10 - "unlimited downloads of any paid app"- It's BS, Google needs to protect us for that 30%!!!!!!!!!! I

have stopped writing apps because of this!!!!!

Android platform is easy to make any app what I want to make.

I am currently working on the first of hopefully many games, and hope to have that available in the coming months. You can't

go wrong working with a company like Google.

The google android market should be more open to our developers.

[I'm in Thailand] Two things. 1. Numerous reports that my app (9420 Thai Keyboard) is "search-not-found". I would have been

very upset if this is my channel for making money... 2. I hope Google will soon provide the way I can "sell" my Android app. It's

really tempting for me to join "other" mobile market where they allow me to sell my app. The rest, Google is doing a good job

positioning as "platform". All Android tools are 100% freeware. It is a good starting of the beautiful relationship!!!

In Portugal we don't have a paid market.

Android Market is worst application market ever!

The documentation and tutorials on the Android dev site are really bad & contain loads of errors .

I created my app because I wanted to use it. All the other benefits of publishing an app on the android market are just

    bonuses.

Lack of decent copy protection coupled with piracy is a deterrent for developers. Lack of mechanism for 2 way dialogue

between users and developers is very frustrating. Unable to easily respond to comments in Market hurts developers.

You should not view Android in isolation. I also do iPhone apps. Others I know also do Blackberry apps. The mobile landscape is

very fragmented, but iPhoneand Android are leading the way to a new model for user experience and developer experience.

The 70/30 % rev share should be reduced to 10%. Most developers can't make a living from their app. Google takes 30%, and tax

takes 30 to 40%. Only 40-50% left for the developer. RIM only takes 20%. Apple also takes 30%. Amazon takes 10% or less from

their merchants. Android developers are contributing with billions of dollars of value to Google for little or no return. It seems

    like exploitation.

The biggest problem of Android Market for me is a better communication tool with the users and buyers of your application.

was a bit difficult to answer, because I develop Android apps as a Hobby and at Work

The android platform has many extensions besides phones. Printers, tablets, microwaves are some of the other applications of

where hardware manufacturers are putting Android. And a Swedish company just announced plans for an Android based

television. This is all very important for developers because we don't have to develop just for phones. There are many other

    applications.

    I love android.

the 70% revenue question is confusing. Consider rewriting it. Is it fair that Google gets 30 cents + 2.9% of the app. The value of

creating the market is amazing. I agree that it is fair. I believe I am unusual as a developer, in that I am a 45 year old that is a VP

of Marketing of a large company. I am an engineer by training, yet have never developed commercial software. My joy in

developing applicatoins for Android is that I am in control of the what gets developed. At a large corporation, even though I am

an officer and VP, I don't always have the control of what gets done. Whit Android Apps as and independent software

developer, I do. Ah the joy to implement my ideas!

I'm quite young to be a top 20 Android paid app developer. It will help pay for my college tuition. The success of my application,

which requires "root" access (a hacked phone), shows that there is a huge audience of Android enthusiasts capable of tweaking

their devices on the market. It shows the size of the Android enthusiast and developer community. I continue to actively develop

SetCPU as I move on to other projects as well. Good survey!

Good idea . As I'm only starting out with experimenting with different apps to see how revenue works out I don't know if Im

right for the survey. none of the apps I have made I would consider amazing works but they have let me experiment and from

that I hope to put out better /far more useful ;-) Apps in the future .Unlike in the iphonewere I have one stafff (paid ) member

who takes literally 10 times longer for each app. I just help out for fun and make an app in 3 -4 hours (including video editing and

photoshopping icons) while he is spending 30 plus hours and He uses my video and photoshop work in his iphone version . Sadly

the iphone version makes 200 euro while mine makes nothing ;-( . But eventually we'll come up with a that million euro idea.

I believe motivations may vary greatly depending on application (at least this is my case). It may be interesting to gatherdata

on one or two other apps too.

Hi, I am a big fan of Andriod but they really need to sort out a proper online store where people can search for apps and buy

then download them. All this mucking around trying to search for something via a phone is pointless and frustrating, especially

when you compare how simple and staightforwardApple have made it. Come on Google, now is the time to sort this out,

50,000,000 phones and 55,000 apps and we are still sodding around with software on the phone that still cannot display the app

    pictures.

The problem ofavailibility of selling Paid applications

(http://market.android.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=150324) was not covered. it's a problem one cannot sale

application from Poland in my example, but from many manycountries it's not possible.

I developed my LAST app for my own education, so i could learn SDK functions for my NEXT app.

As a newbie to Android, my last app (and first app) was more about testing the entire 'release to market' process. Also, there

was the thr ill of seeing other people download your first app. In the survey, I wonder whether it would also be interesting t o see

for which sectors long term developers are coming from. As for myself, I come from a long history of website development.
