Purpose aims and methodology

The purpose of the questionnaire was to find out

what my target audience was and what they prefer

in a magazine, which will therefore help my

magazine to sell better.

I chose to use a target group of 4 boys ages 17-22

who gave me a lot of qualitative data as well as

answering my questions. I also asked random

random samples to fill n my questionnaire to get a

more wider, valid outcome.

The results of these questions suggest that

my target audience should be between

the ages of 16 and 21, and that the majority

are male however I feel this is because I did

not ask as many females and through

further questioning I found that the

audience felt the dance genre was unisex.

Most of the samples asked where

students, because of their age, however

they also have part time jobs o top of this.

Because they do not have further financial

worries they have money to spare on

magazines and things, there fore they are

The purpose of asking the audience where they lived was to get

an idea as to where to advertise my magazine, by means, in what

areas. Most lived in bishops stortford. Finding out about their

hobbies may also help with advertising, many likes music/singing

and composing, which is good because that is what my magazine

is all about. Many also like shopping and sport, none of these

hobbies where too serious, in that they did not live their lives

around these hobbies, meaning they will have time to read

magazines.

where are you more likely

to buy a magazine from?

Many of my samples rarely bought a

magazine, which is worrying because it

means that my target age range are not

really interested, after further questioning

however, they seemed more involved

with my magazine because they felt they

had a say in what it was going to be like.

Obviously, over half of the audience only

agreed to pay the least amount for the

magazine, although 38% said they would

pay £2.50-£3.00. Finally, my results show

that most would by from a supermarket or

internet, this showed me that they would

prefer to buy in the laziest way possible.

For example, visiting the supermarket is

essential for buying food etc, so they

would not be going out of their way to

buy the magazine. The internet is also a

very simple way to buy.

which artists do you know

These questions will help give me an idea

of to put into my magazine. For example

many chose the ‘festival ticket discount’ as

a free offer which shows clearly what

should be used. Worryingly, many did not

buy any dance magazines however a few

samples read mixmag, in which I can use

for inspiration. The final question will help

me a lot when choosing an artist to star in

my magazine. Many preferred example

and deadmouse, so I know to use artists

similar to these.

These two questions indicate what colours and content I should use. The

audience preferred features such as youtube climb to fame, interviews and

remix reviews. The colour scheme opinion was pretty much shared between

the samples and focus group, nearly all preferred a black, white and electric

blue colour scheme, whilst the second opinion was black, white, grey and

electric blue. However both answers are very similar.

When asking the audience what

magazine layout they preferred and

why, the majority preferred the yen

magazine because of the colors

mainly. The older people that I asked

preferred the computer magazine

and a few like fader, because of the

model.

how much would you pay for a

new music magazine?

£2.00 £2.50-£3.00 £3.50-£4.00

This final question will determine how much I place my magazine at. Because

the majority of my samples are part time students, who have money to spare to

buy my magazine. The majority would pay £2.

Page 10: Results

Conclusions and proposals. To conclude; my results clearly show that my target audience are young

students with part time jobs, basing in bishops Stortford, this locations

indicates where I should advertise my magazine. Many of my samples like

shopping and music, which implies that I should give a shopping based

gift with my magazine, and include adverts for shopping and sport into it.

I will price my magazine at £2, and sell it in superstores and on the

internet, I chose to do this because I found that my audience are lazy

and these are the easiest, and most tempting ways to get hold of my

magazine.

The audience taught me that the black, white and electric blue colour

scheme is the most eye catching so I propose to use that and use artists

like deadmouse and example. They preferred the layout of the yen

magazine therefore I will conduct more research on the layout of that.
