    CORONAVIRUS VIRUS PRAYER

Merciful God hear our fervent prayer for all who suffer

    from the coronavirus.

May those who are infected receive the proper treatment and the

comfort of your healing presence. May their caregivers, families

and neighbors be shielded from the onslaught of the virus. Give

solace to those who grieve the loss of loved ones. Protect and

guide those who strive to find a cure, that their work may conquer

the disease and restore communities to wholeness and health.

Help us rise above fear. We ask all this through the intercession of

Our Lady of Lourdes, and in the name of your Son, Jesus, and the

    Holy Spirit, now and forever.

    Amen

COMMUNITY BASKET PROGRAM A HUGE SUCCESS

The Annual Community Christmas Basket Project was a great suc-

cess under the direction of Lorraine Childs. There were almost 80

families helped. Oodles of toys were collected at local churches,

local businesses & from CCS teachers even though school was not

in session. Thanks to the businesses that allowed a collection box

to be place in their stores: Alix’s, Family Dollar, Veterinary Ser-

vices, and IGA. Thanks also to the IGA for running Tag Project

where the program received $800 and for donating some turkeys.

Mike Jones donated potatoes again, as he has for several years.

Stewart’s generously donated 1— milk cards! Thanks goes to the

many people who so willingly donated money, which allowed each

basket recipient to receive a full Christmas dinner & some gift

cards. Many, many wonderful toys were donated, such that each

family with children had toys to make their Christmas brighter. Of

course, thanks goes to the volunteers who help pull this all togeth-

er. This year, many students were involved and they did a fantastic

job. Masks were worn by everyone. The generosity of people con-

tinues to amaze, especially this year when things were so out of

    normalcy. Happy New Year to

Wise Men See God in the Simple Things

If you’re on social media, you have probably seen a meme going

around that features this quote: “God has a plan for your life. The

enemy has a plan for your life. Be ready for both. Just be wise

enough to know which one to battle and which one to embrace.”

There were certainly two competing plans for the Magi: God’s and

Herod’s. And, wise as they supposedly were, it wasn’t entirely easy

for the Magi to discern which was which. After all, Herod posed as

a friend. He offered the Magi hospitality and kindness. Though the

Gospel doesn’t say so, he probably flattered them and appealed to

every moral weakness he could observe in them. In his palace, they

must have felt great physical comfort -rest and tables of plenty on

what was an otherwise long and treacherous journey.

But if the Magi were honest with themselves, I’ll bet they would

have admitted that, regardless of Herod’s charm, they felt a gnaw-

ing sense of doubt while in his presence. When they looked upon

the Christ Child, born in a stable without any of the comforts of the

world or protections of wealth, they probably felt the opposite.

    They probably felt safe.

The Magi were lucky enough to have the right plan spelled out for

them in a dream, but for the rest of us, it’s enough to remember

this: God’s plan is often the one that leads us to places of great sim-

plicity, great humility and great love. Let’s have the wisdom to

view power with suspicion, and innocence with admiration.

    Spiritual and Religious

Our modern culture suggests a tension between spirituality and reli-

gion. But the Magi in today’s Gospel demonstrate that when spiritu-

ality is lifted up by revelation—when the Magi are told by the reli-

gious leaders where the Messiah is to be born—we find the object

    of our spiritual longing.
