Mathematics Units in the 2nd Nine Weeks
Continue Multiplication and Division
In this unit, students will use strategies to solve multiplication and division problems within 100 using strategies that will include: arrays, number lines, strip diagrams, partial products, and the commutative, associative, and distributive properties. Students will have experiences representing problems and solutions to demonstrate their understanding of multiplication and division. The fact fluency focus will be 1s, 2s, 5s, and 10s facts, which will be embedded throughout the unit.
Data Analysis
In this unit, students will be solving one- and two-step problems by collecting, organizing, displaying, and interpreting data. Students will use frequency tables, dot plots, pictographs, and bar graphs with scaled intervals. The fact fluency focus will be 0s, 3s, 4s, and 6s facts, which will be embedded throughout the unit.

In this unit, students will learn about planned and unplanned spending decisions. They will gain an understanding of credit and the borrower’s responsibility and will identify decisions involving income, spending, saving, credit and charitable giving. Determining the value of a collection of coins and bills will be included in this unit. The fact fluency focus will be 7s, 8s, and 9s facts, which will be embedded throughout the unit.
Science Units in the 2nd Nine Weeks
Continue Physical Earth
In this unit, the student will learn that weather is different in different regions of the world and is predictable. They will observe, measure, and record day-to-day weather changes, such as temperature, wind direction, and precipitation. The student will also understand that the Earth’s surface is constantly changing and that rapid changes are caused by natural disasters (earthquakes, landslides, & volcanoes).
Force and Motion
In this unit, the students will learn different forms of energy and how they are used in everyday life. The learner with also be able to demonstrate how position and motion can be changed by pushing and pulling objects. This unit will continue through the end January.
Ways You Can Help at Home:1) Continue to help your child memorize basic math facts for
addition, subtraction and multiplication. Remember to work on only 6 unlearned facts at a time until those are memorized.
2) Practice reading numbers to the hundred thousands’ place, like 456,205. Zeroes in numbers make those numbers trickier to read for some students. Have your child practice writing the number in word form.
