Baselios Poulose II Catholicos College, Piravom, was founded in 1995 by the Malankara Syrian Jacobite Christian Education Trust, a non profitable organization of the Jacobite Syrian Christian Church, dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in the realm of education to the rural youth. The College is named after His Beatitude Baselios Poulose II, the Catholicos of the East for 21 years, who was known for his profound scholarship, social concerns and commitment to reform. The realization of the long cherished dream of the Holy Church was due largely to the unflagging enthusiasm and unstinting support of the team headed by Shri. T M Jacob, the then Hon. Minister, Govt. of Kerala.Permanently affiliated to the Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, the College offers five undergraduate programmes in frontier areas viz. B.A. English with Journalism, B.C.A., B.B.A., B.Sc. Electronics & B.Com. with Computer Application, and two postgraduate programmes - M.Sc. Computer Science and M.Sc. Electronics. Ever since its inception, the Management, Members on the staff and students were instrumental in introducing several innovative programmes and healthy practices in this campus which paved way to its culmination when the College was elevated to the top 10% category of academic institutions in the country, with the highest grade in NAAC assessment and accreditation.

The College takes pride in its achievements and looks forward to realize its aspirations for the future, and is steadfast in its commitment to shape and transform young men and women into talented, disciplined, enthusiastic and hardworking citizens of India. The College is resolved to develop into a centre of quality and excellence, imparting relevant and value based education to the rural youth.

LocationThe college is situated on the panoramic hill extending over twenty acres of land on the Baselios Mount at Palachuvadu, 4km away from Piravom.

About the ConferenceIntellectual Property Rights and Human Rights imbricate in two dominant paradigms. One is that of conflict and another of co-existence. The first one foregrounds the increasing incompatibility of universal realization of social, economic and cultural rights with the new global regimes of power predicated on monopolistic, restrictive trade practices. Nation-state's obligations towards the natural rights of its citizens are in many occasions at loggerheads with the conditionalities imposed by international trade agreements for protecting intellectual

BASELIOS POULOSE II CATHOLICOS COLLEGE, PIRAVOM property. The second approach of co-existence is premised on the idea that both the domains of law share a normative discourse founded on a system of incentives for private enterprise, innovations and consuming public. Of late, interface of human rights and intellectual property became an urgent concern with the indigenous people's growing demand for rights to recognition and control over their culture, including traditional knowledge relating to bio diversity, medicines and agriculture. The restrictions imposed by patented pharmaceuticals on access to medicines and the universal demand for health and medication is another contested area. This International Conference is an attempt to map the future trajectories and paradigm shifts in the domains of Human Rights and Intellectual Property Rights. International Conference on “Intellectual Property Rights: Conflict/ Coexistence in Human Rights,Health and Indigenous Rights” aims to bring together leading academic scientists, researchers and research scholars to exchange and share their experiences and research results about the various aspects of Intellectual Property Rights. It also provides a premier interdisciplinary forum for researchers, practitioners and educators to present and discuss the most recent innovations, trends, concerns and practical challenges encountered and the solutions adopted in the field of Intellectual Property Rights.
