Waste as resource
Social activities influencing lifestyles
We want to inspire sustainable lifestyles by providing a forum for recycling and upcycling and by creating a platform for sustainable practices.
Materials and goods will be reused, recycled or upcycled to prolong their lifespan, this will reduce the amount of imports and enable circularity in the biological and technical loops locally or within the region.

WasTe as resourCeRE:SOURCE does not treat waste as waste but as a valuable resource to be upscaled from its base components to something useful for both people and nature. To that end, incoming waste is sorted into what can be sold, repaired, recycled, upcycled, composted, or has to be shipped to a specialized facility.

The RE:SOURCE building is a source of valuable materials and is carefully constructed to ensure that they are used to their fullest. The building itself is built in steps over time as need materializes. Its components and structural system is designed with modularity in mind and are built to be disassembled at the end of its life-span. This allows the materials to be harvested and be either sold or upscaled.

Green areas
To go beyond designing a sustainable building, we also want to encourage a sustainable lifestyle among the people of Gothenburg. To that end, RE:SOURCE connects with the community by inviting people to participate in the activity and important work that happens there. This is done by intersecting the sustainability functions with social activies. To make sure that this is successful, the RE:SOURCE building is made—through its connection with the river and the surrounding green areas—an easy place to find and an inspiring place to be. RE:SOURCE also invites for other species to live and visit, by including different types of greenery in the design.
