We all make ’em, we all break ’em. But everyone who lives and works in the 101 cities
and towns of Greater Boston can benefit so much from a few smart, simple, doable
changes that temptation will stand no chance. Resolve to work toward them in your
municipality: you’ll feel better about letting up a little on the kale. We promise.
Things are changing. By 2030, the region’s population will be much grayer, and
communities will have to be strategic about making sure seniors have ways to stay in
their communities, and about attracting and retaining young, productive adults. One
important way to do that, and therefore to become or
remain competitive and vibrant, will be to offer – even in the
suburbs – both rental and ownership multifamily units.
“Complete” streets are those that allow for more trips to be taken by bikes and
pedestrians. The public health and environmental benefits are obvious. But it all starts
with a commitment on the municipal level to make Complete Streets
a priority, either informally or via a bylaw.
Your municipality is a more diverse place than you may think, rich with people from
different cultures and income levels, of different ages, abilities, orientations, and
opinions. A little thoughtful outreach can pay big dividends in the
vibrancy of the municipality you share. Learn more here.
Retrofitting streetlights with LED bulbs is one cost-effective way to help reduce usage.
There are many others, including solar and energy savings performance contracting.
Our region includes enormous agriculture resources and opportunities. Protecting those
resources and encouraging more local farming would not only boost local economies
and create jobs, but could also improve quality of life and health throughout Metro
Boston. Learn more here.
