Consideration of a Resolution approving the regular meeting schedule of

the City Council for 2014.

Recommendation s}: It is recommended that the City Council adopt the Resolution.

Executive Summary: Adopting this Resolution will establish the datesof

the City Council'sregular meetings in 2014 and will assist the Council in coordinating and

scheduling other special meetings and events.

The provisions of the Carmel-by-the-Sea establish under section 2.04.010

and section 2.04.020 th at the City Council shall place on its agenda for

the regular meeting its calendar for the following year and that the

Mayor and Mayor Pro Tempore will meet prior to the December meeting

to develop the calendar for presentation to the full council.

Analysis/Discussion: In accordance with provisions of the Municipal Code Sections 2.04.010and 2.04.020 (BL which state that the City Council shall hold regular

meetings at 4 :30 p.m. (open session, the regular meeting) on the first

Tuesday of each month and at 4 :30p m . (Tour of Inspection) p.m. on the

Monday prior to the regular m  ting of each month Further, the

Municipal Code provides that in the event that any regular or tour of

inspection of the City Council falls on a legal city holiday, the City Council

has the option by way of Resolution to hold the meeting at the stated

hour and place agreed to at any other time as referred to in Attachment

A .

Therefore, in order to meet the provisions of the Municipal Code the

meeting of September 2014 will need to be changed as follows:

• Monday, September 1 for Tour of Inspection Tuesday,

September 2 for the Regular City Council meeting, will have to be

changed to Monday, September 8 for the Tour of Inspection due

to September 1 being a legally established holiday (Labor Day);

A. In December of each year, the City Council

shall place on its agenda for the regular meeting itscalendar for the following year. The Mayor and

Mayor Pro Tempore will meet prior to the Decem-ber meeting to develop the calendar for presenta

tion to the City Council.B. In the event any regular meeting or tour of

inspection of the City Council falls on a legal Cityholiday, the City Council shall hold the meeting atthe stated hour and place agreed to and adopted by

2.04.030 Council Meetings - Special.The Mayor or three Council members may call

a special meeting as provided for in Section 54956

2.04.040 Council Meetings - Special - Notice.Notices of special meetings shall be in accor

dance with the Government Code of the State of

2.04.050 Closed Session.

2.04.060 Council Meetings - Quorum.A three-member majority of the Council consti

Any member of the Council, or other person ,

using profane, vulgar, loud or boisterous languageat any meeting, or otherwise interrupting the proceedings, who refuses to be seated or quiet when so

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF

CARMEL BY THE SEA APPROVING THE REGULAR MEETING DATES OF

TH CITY COUNCIL FOR CALENDAR YEAR 2014

WHEREAS, Sections 2.04.010 and 2.04.020 of the Municipal Code directs the

Mayor and Mayor Pro Tempore to place on the December agenda the City Council's

calendar ofRegular Meetings for the coming year;

WHEREAS, the Mayor and Mayor Pro Tempore have submitted the proposed

meeting dates, attached hereto as Attachment A.

NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARMEL-BYTHE-SEA DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:

1 To accept the calendar of City Council Regular Meetings for calendar year

20 14 as attached hereto as Exhibit A.
