BackgroundFoundedbyClevelandnative,ClaraRankin,andadedicatedboard,Hopewellaccepted its first resident in 1996. hopewell is one of a handful of therapeutic farmcommunitiesinthecountryandtheonlyoneofitskindinOhio.Weareabletoserve38adults,withhousinginfourresidences.

in 2009, we experienced a year that may be best characterized as one mixed with adversity and opportunity.

Adecreaseinresidentcensusandsubsequentrevenuemirroredthefinancialdownturnfeltacrossourstateand

country.Whileneedsremainedhigh,families’capacitytoaffordcarewasverylimited.Admissionsdroppedandour

averagelengthofstayatHopewellwasshorterin2009thaninprioryears.

Thankstoourloyaldonorcommunity,however,supportforouruniqueprogramremainedhigh.Wesurpassedtwo

importantfundraisinggoalswithourspecialevent,theSummerSolstice,andannualfundcampaign.

Asisoftenthecaseinourownlives,thechallengesweexperiencedledtoseveralimportantopportunitiesand

achievementshighlightedonpage5.Allinall,thewordthatbestdescribesHopewellin2009isresilient. And the

definitionofbeingresilient—rebounding,recovering—remindsusofourresidents.

We are inspired every day by their ability to overcome adversity and create lives of hope and health. their achievement

Accreditation, Licensure and PartnershipsHopewell’sprogramislicensedandcertifiedbytheOhioDepartmentofMentalHealthandweareaccreditedbytheCommissionon

AccreditationofRehabilitationFacilities(CARF)forTherapeuticCommunity.HopewellisamemberoftheNationalAllianceofMentalIllness

(NAMI)andAmericanResidentialTreatmentAssociation(ARTA).

CARF re-certification hopewell was re-certified by the Commission on Accreditation for Rehabilitation

Facilities(CARF)forathree-yearperiodindicatingexcellenceinservicequality.In2006,wewerethefirstresidential

treatment center in the country to be certified for therapeutic community.

Strategic plan createdTheBoardofDirectorsandstaffcompletedacomprehensivethree-yearstrategicplan

whichwillguideourworkthrough2012.

Third-party payer list expanded We expanded our payer base to include contracts with several national

insurancecarriers.Theabilitytoofferthirdpartyreimbursementforourservicestofamiliesisasignificantfactorinmaking

Hopewell’streatmentfinanciallyaccessible.

New building openedTheDavidCutlerConservatoryopenedinMay.Thisgreenhouse,meditationgarden

andmeetingspaceisabeautifulnewadditiontoourcampusandisuseddailybyresidents,staffandoutsideorganizations.
