VIII. BUILDING MATERIALS

The project is targeting maximum use of low energy material and local material.

Reducing construction waste: The project aims at reducing at least 10% of construction waste through better construction management. Off sie fabricated material will be used which will reduce the onsite wastage of material.

Reusing construction waste: The construction waste will be reused as filling material. The waste generated during plastering will be reused through strengthening in mortar.

Using recycled material: Recycled material will be used in the form of reinforcement, cement, metal & aluminum. At least 5% of the total building material used in the project will be either pre consumer or post consumer recycled material.

Regional material: At least 20% of the material used in the building construction will be chosen on the basis of its manufacturing place being within 800 km radius from the construction site.

Rapidly renewable material: The project aims to use fast growing plants (the plants achieving entire life cycle in 10 years) viz. Cork, Bamboo, Wheat (in the form of cores). These materials will form at least 5% by volume or weight of the total wood consumption in the building.

Use of fly ash in the form of concrete filling material and paver blocks.
