Residential Life at AUC

OFFICE OF RESIDENTIAL LIFEThe Office of Residential Life is dedicated to providing quality Living and Learning Communities to students of diverse nationalities and promoting out-of-class learning. The quality of student life and services provided are continuously monitored by office staff members to ensure students live in a pleasant and comfortable atmosphere that is conducive to learning.

ON CAMPUS RESIDENCEOnce you set your foot in New Cairo one destination that cannot go unnoticed, is AUC Avenue, which has become a landmark and destination in New Cairo. The iconic educational institution is a local hub known for its vibrant community of students and faculty. AUC student housing is on campus and is strategically located two to three minutes away from classes. The residences are highly secured with 24-hour security watch and service point personnels at both the female and male residences. The Sports Center in front of the residences encourages outdoor activities among students.

MISSION STATEMENTThe Office of Residential Life strives to create a dynamic, student-centered experience that fosters personal and intellectual growth. Through exceptional programs and services, residential life nurtures leadership, cross-cultural competence and academic success.

RESIDENTIAL COTTAGESThe residence is composed of 12 cottages, divided into units for males and others for females. Each cottage has five apartments, with double and single rooms, a lounge, a study hall, courtyard and terrace. Each apartment has four suite single rooms and a common living space. Every three double rooms and one single room in the residence, share two showers, two baths and two sinks.

LIVING AND LEARNING COMMUNITIES PROGRAMS

First-Year Residential Experience ProgramFYRE provides first-year University residents with opportunities for active learning and integration into the campus community. It familiarizes them with their new living environment through unique programs and resources designed to meet their needs and interests, including study-skill seminars, orientation sessions, mentoring programs and recreational activities.

The FYRE program also provides freshmen living on campus with Living and Learning Communities (LLCs), where students engage in learning together. The communities take them beyond living in the dorms and attending classes, creating a sense of friendship with fellow students and faculty members. Through a fun — yet educational — approach, the LLC offers students a supportive environment, critical for academic success and social networking.

Resident Adviser ProgramThe Resident Adviser (RA) is a student para-staff member who plays an integral role leading the day-to-day operations of the residence. RAs facilitate, advise, and translate the Office of Residential Life’s vision and mission to residents. They work directly with residents and have access to essential resources that aid them in fulfilling their responsibilities efficiently. RAs work in a dynamic and rewarding atmosphere that promotes a positive living and learning experience for residents during their stay at the AUC Residences.

Resident Director ProgramThe Resident Directors (RD) act as liaison between the RAs and the Office of Residential Life. They supervise the RAs and manage their daily tasks, acting as consultants and suggesting the most suitable practices to successfully achieve their responsibilities and duties.

Giving Back to the Community ProgramOne of the Living Learning Communities goals is to encourage residents to give back to their community through participating in various events and activities organized each semester inside and outside of the dorms. Residents participate in and plan for charitable events and activities that serve the community, including donation collection, yard sales, orphanage visits, recycling projects and visits to the children's cancer hospital.

ResLife Cross-cultural ProgramCross-cultural experiences enrich students’ lives by providing an opportunity to actively engage with people from different backgrounds and witness a variety of unique perspectives. These interactions positively impact students’ personal development and sense of individuality, by creating major shifts in how they think and view the world around them.

The learning experience is not limited to the classroom or University campus. The Office of Residential Life is on a continuous mission to encourage intercultural engagement among Living Learning Communities in the campus residences.

During the 2015 - 2014 academic year, the Office of Residential Life developed a new initiative to promote diversity through the ResLife Cross-Cultural Program (RCCP), aiming to support the development of students living on their own, away from their homes and families.

Through RCCP dorm residents are exposed to different cultures and environments that pique their interest and challenge them on an intellectual and social level. The program guides students toward a new path of self-exploration

and embracing differences.

Residents also benefit from opportunities to experience enriching and educationally stimulating foreign travel at a much lower cost, making it more affordable for the wider dorm community.

It’s only when you’re on top of a mountain, on the edge of a cliff, or in the middle of a suspended bridge that you discover the true meaning of life. While there is no doubt that Nepal was a great experience accompanied by the best feelings, it gave me the best of friends.
