Dylan has been named the Director for The Simulation Center at Fairbanks Hall. The Simulation Center at Fairbanks Hall brings Indiana’s current and future doctors, nurses and techni-cians together in collaborative practice in a variety of clinical settings. Together, these interdisciplinary teams will practice on mannequins that respond like real patients, immerse themselves in computer-simulated surgery and react to complicated emergency room dramas.

Dylan earned his undergraduate degree and medical doctorate from the University of Michigan. He completed his emergency medicine residency at Indiana University in 2005, at which point he joined the faculty at IU School of Medicine. Since 2008, Dylan has been involved in simulation education to include undergraduate, graduate and continuing medical education. He is active in the Society for Simulation in Healthcare as a member of the Research Committee, EM section, and IPE affinity group. In addition, he teaches the IUSM Simulation Elective and Faculty Development in Simulation Course, while continuing to work and teach clinically at Eskenazi and Methodist Hospital Emergency Departments.

Jeff has been named the Editor-in-Chief for the Academic Emergency Medicine(AEM). AEM is a peer-reviewed journal whose goal is to advance the science, education, and clinical practice of emergency medicine, to serve as a voice for the academic emergency medicine community, and to enhance the goals and objectives of the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine.

Jeff earned his medical doctorate from the Medical College of Virginia, and completed his emergency medicine residency followed by a research fellowship at the Carolinas Medical Center. He now serves as Vice Chair of Research in emergency medicine and a professor of physiology. His diagnostic research interests focus on human affect analysis, pretest probability and capnography to reduce medical imaging. His human treatment research includes randomized trials of fibrinolysis and inhaled nitric oxide. His laboratory work focuses on mechanisms and treatment of acute pulmonary hypertension from pulmonary embolism, animal models of pulmonary embolism, and nanoparticle-delivered plasmin for clot lysis.

Carey has been named the new Vice Chair for Faculty Development. In his new role he will focus on the creation of a preeminent faculty development program that provides a substantial and clear path for the success of all our faculty.

Carey is a professor of emergency medicine. He attended Washington and Lee University in Lexington, VA on an Army ROTC scholarship and graduated as valedictorian in 1976. He earned his medical doctorate from the Medical College of Virginia in 1980, and began his Army commitment by doing his clinical training in emergency medicine at Madigan Army Medical Center from 1980-1983. He was stationed at the US Army Hospital in Nuremberg, Germany from 1983-1985 where he served as the medical director of the Emergency Department. In 1985 Carey assumed the role of EM Residency Director at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, where he served until 1989. He then assumed the position of EM Residency Director at Methodist Hospital of Indianapolis (subsequently IU) from 1989-2013. Since 2013 he has served as the EM Residency Director Emeritus and Senior Clinical Educator for the Department of Emergency Medicine.

Joey has spent the better part of his tenure in medical education working to create collaborative synergies among educators and practitioners across different professions both within healthcare and with outside entities such as law schools. Joey joined Indiana University in 2013 as the Vice Chair for Finance & Administration for the School of Medicine’s Department of Emergency Medicine.
