Researching the market place

When I was doing some research I found other rock magazines that may be in competition with my magazine that I will be producing. I will be looking closely at the price, frequency of publication, issue size (number of pages), regular content and feature articles. For each magazine I research I will include a link to the magazine website, the publishers website and the media pack. The magazines I found that I will be researching about are Classic Rock, Kerrang and Q.

Classic RockThe price for this magazine is £5.50, which is rather expensive for a magazine which suggests that the target audience for this magazine is for older people because younger children aren't going to be able to afford it. Classic Rock magazine is published every month and has an issue size of 138. It has regular content which includes; The dirt, Raw Power, The stories behind the songs, Q&A, Reviews, Buyers Guide, Letters, Live previews and Heavy load. The feature articles in the most recent magazine (November 2015) is; Hollywood Vampires, Eagles, Nik Turner, Chris Cornell, Dokken, ELO, Shinedown, Tom Robinson and Garbage.

Kerrang

The price of a Kerrang magazine is between £3.74 - £3.94. The price is very high which suggests it is aimed at older teenagers/adults because children wont be able to afford it. It gets published weekly therefore there is always a new magazine out for people to get and the issue includes 63 pages. The regular content in Kerrang is; News, lives, reviews, gigs and posters. The feature articles in the most recent magazine (October 2015) is; Black veil Brides, Asking Alexandria, Warped Tour UK, Eagles of Death metal, All time low, State champs, microphones.

The price of a Q magazine is £4.20 which again is expensive for a magazine. The magazine gets published monthly . The issue size of the magazine is 130 pages. The regular content is; The rolling stones, Django Django, Foals, The Arcs, Dr Dre and David Bowie. The feature article in the most recent magazine (October 2015); Arcade Fire, 50 Cent, U2, Wolf Alice, Stereophonic, Miguel, New Order, The Maccabees, Foxes and Kurt Vile.
