Research Cloud The NeCTAR Research Cloud is a single integrated cloud operated by 8 national partners and supporting over 7000 research user registrations across Australia. This innovative infrastructure is reducing barriers to collaboration and knowledge sharing across institutional, state and national boundaries.
Delivering Value to Australian Research The NeCTAR Research cloud supports Australian research from over 95% of the Fields of Research codes (2-‐digit) — a broad spectrum of disciplines, research projects and institutions.
Researchers are experiencing tangible benefits in building environments to meet their specific needs. The nature of research collaboration is undergoing a transformation:
“We’ve been using the NeCTAR Research Cloud to undertake a collaborative project with a group at a Max Planck Institute in Germany … [The NeCTAR Cloud] makes it much easier, much faster. The performance is excellent. It just facilitates everything. It means more collaborations than we would have done in the past”
— Prof. Ian Small, ARC Centre of Excellence for Plant Energy Biology, Australian Laureate Fellow.

Supporting Diverse Research Needs The NeCTAR Research Cloud is an unprecedented investment at scale in highly diverse computational needs across the full breadth of Australian research.
NeCTAR is supported by the Australian Government through the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy to establish eResearch infrastructure by partnering with Australian research institutions, organisations and research communities.
The NeCTAR programs have attracted over $54 million in co-‐investment from the Australian research sector to support the development of the Research Cloud and research community driven national Virtual Laboratories and eResearch Tools.
Unprecedented eResearch Adoption Utilisation of the NeCTAR cloud continues to grow rapidly with up to 250 new research users registering each month. This represents one of the largest user bases of any Australian eResearch infrastructure. The Australian Access Federation provides single sign-‐on for Australian researchers – supporting rapid access and uptake.
World Leading The NeCTAR Research Cloud is the world leader in deploying highly innovative cloud computing technology for the benefit of research -‐ providing opportunities for federation with emerging international research clouds. The Research Cloud is supporting the NCRIS mission to deliver world class research facilities so that Australian researchers can solve complex problems here in Australia and around the globe.
“NeCTAR’s national research cloud is an Australian first; providing flexible scalable computing power at any time, available to all Australian researchers.”
— Assoc. Prof. Glenn Moloney, Director NeCTAR.
