will be required if Quadrover is to be run in the lab
Shelving for reference books, coat rack or bins for jackets and bags, bicycle
parking would be nice. Dedicated tool storage/work area required.
No special plugs required, but several powerbars will be required for different
tests and experiments. Soldering station wil l also require power.
A lab printer, area for a whiteboard. Note that we have quiet office
space available, so the lab will be used for experiments and
collaborative work. Space for a bar fridge would be nice.

Nice to have a group of work desks, but also space to put
computers near lab experiments. Most work done in common type
In some cases fine, but nice to have an area to put persona
things, leave stuff open overnight e tc.
Lots of power is always necessary, preferably surge protected. A space with power for a desktop box
server and printer is required, as well as lots of plugs for laptops, lab power supplies, peripherals etc.
-Dedicated tools/workbench area, all tool storage locations labelled, all tools labelled
-needs to include hand tools as well as electronics work area
-Space for items such as mini fridge, coffee maker, utensils etc
-work desks as well as central meeting/boardroom table, space for whiteboard and potential
screen + projector
-nice to have shelves/bins for both personal items (coats, lunch etc) (2'x2'x3' or so) and books
(good sized shelf for both common books and at workstations)
-Also good to have additional shelf/drawer/bin space for random materials/experiments/extra,in addiiton to lots of good, dedicated tool storage plus work benches.

Q: The work desks should be:
Please check one:
Together in a common area
But each have space to put books/other stuff separately.
Q: Can a work desk be used by more than one research student:
No
Its better if each has his/her own space.
Q: Is ventilation required for running an experiment?
Yes
might be running experiments with a gas engine, so proper ventilation will be installed
for that.
Q: How important is the privacy of work?
Please cir cle one: (1= not important, 5=very important)

Q: How important is a silent environment?

Q: Do you have a specific requirement for a power port?
Please provide a short explanation:
The usual power ports for computer, monitor, and other electronics. between 4 and 6 ports
would be ok.

shelves would be great. drawers ok too. Maybe 12ft square for books and papers and
experiment stuff.
Q: Can you suggest any additional requirements that would improve the lab for your needs?
lightning in the room is really important. It would be great if we could have lamps besides
the ceiling light.

Will require tool storage, as well as book shelving. Total of 10-15 ft of floor space would
be my best guess. Were a pretty social bunch (most of us) and I think that cubicle-style
dividers probably wouldnt be appreciated by most._________________________________________________________________________

Q: Do you have a specific requirement for a power port?
Please provide a short explanation:
A special plug would be required for my test rig (similar to the one the is being used in 2-
22) .
Q: What kind of storage space would you like (i.e. lockers, bins, shelves, drawers, etc.) and
how much storage space will you require (approximate square footage)?
Shelves for the books and documents would be really useful, and drawers for some of theexpensive equipments of devices. A would have a few binders (5-6) and some books (4-5).
A totall of 1x1x0.5 (m3
)
Q: Can you suggest any additional requirements that would improve the lab for your needs?
would be good enough to house my research equipments.
Big table for group discussions, white board, and big scrap papers to develop ideas and a
printer. Small areas for chatting and sitting would be helful (those who want to chat and
have fun could sit there and wont bother others!)

My position is that students have office space upstairs if they
need a quiet work space with cubicles. The lab is for experiments and collaboration.
I'm fine with a quiet section and a few cubicles in the back, but trying to enforce
mandatory silence at all times and setting up a cubicle farm would really destroy the
lab. If some people are worried that they won't be able to find a quiet work space, I
suggest we have a meeting to draft guidelines.
Having our own desks is nice, but it's also good to have shared space for soldering
equipment, wrenches, tool sets, hammocks, etc.
Otherwise, as for the Christmas list of stuff I'd like for the lab:
-ergonomic chair
-simple shelving, enough for some textbooks and a place to put assignments
-communal coat and shoe racks
