FIND GRANT OPPORTUNITIES All discretionary grants offered by the 26 federal grant-making agencies can be found on Grants.gov.
You do not have to register with Grants.gov to find grant opportunities. However, once you are ready to apply for a grant, you will need to get registered. This process takes 3-5 business days.

Basic SearchSearch by keyword, Funding Opportunity Number (FON) or Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) number.
Browse by CategorySearch by a variety of categories of funding activities.
Browse by AgencySearch from a list of agencies offering grant opportunities.
Advanced SearchSearch by more specific criteria such as funding instrument type, eligibility or sub-agency.
Once you find the right grant, access the application package by either: •Clicking on the "How to Apply" button in the grant opportunity's synopsis. •Entering the Funding Opportunity Number (FON) or Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) number on the Download Application Package page.

Writing Your First Proposal
• Begin early - three to six months is not too early
• Be innovative—if your idea isn’t brand new, find an angle
that is
• Do your homework, so that you know where your project fits
and you can find your own niche
• Call a program officer, summarize your project and get
feedback on it

• Contact ORSP as early as possible to start working on your
budget and deal with things like Human Subjects
• Follow agency guidelines to the letter
• Write clearly, succinctly, and correctly -graphics help
• Provide enough detail so that your reader knows what you
are talking about

your proposal. Revise on the basis of that input
• Do not rush the submission project. Electronic
submission may make things slower, not faster
• If you don’t get funded, make sure you get your reviews
