Research Skills & Career Development Process (RS&CD)
What is the RS&CD process?
– The RS&CD process is the approach that will be used for the continuous professional development of Post-Doctoral Fellows
– It is underpinned by a framework of skills developed in consultation with the academic community
– Range of development interventions can be accessed – courses on offer are ones available within UCD and are a mix of internal & external suppliers
– It will satisfy requirements for PMDS
Key Principles Underpinning the RS&CD Process
• RS&CD Process is mandatory for all PD Fellows at Level 1 and Level 2
• The PD Fellow is responsible for his/her own development supported by the PI/Mentor
• RS&CD Planning is to support a PD Fellow in their current role as well as having an eye to their future chosen career
• The 4 Development Categories do not carry equal weighting and the ‘Research & Research Management’ category is key
• ‘Development’ is used in its broadest sense and includes, mentoring, shadowing, courses and any other means agreed between the PI/Mentor and the Post-Doctoral Fellow
• A balance between the demands of the PD Fellow’s role and the desire for development needs to be maintained – up to 3 development objectives over a 9-12 month period is recommended in order to maintain that balance
