TRANSCRIPT

Research objectives in the context of the CGIAR System priorities The CP will address System Priority 3A: Increasing income from fruit and vegetables. It is designed to achieve the general goal --- Improve the income of smallholder producers and consumers through research relevant to major high-value fruits and vegetables Deliverables will be relevant to System priority specific goals Cross-cutting approaches can be adopted Specific goal 1 Identify key species for research and assess their factor and product markets Specific goal 2 Enhance production of selected fruit and vegetables through improvement of farming systems Specific goal 3 Pro-poor interventions that will enable farmers to benefit from fruit and vegetables are identified and implemented. Research must be relevant to the MDGs and CGIAR goals. Output should be strongly IPG Oriented Global Poverty Population pressure coincident with marginal cropping systems Evidence of Stakeholder involvement in problem identification and is linked to bottom-up priority setting mechanisms Kinds and Nos. of partners: Alliance centers, ARIs, NARS, CSO, Private Sector Core CGIAR and external partners and their respective roles for successful implementation which demonstrates added value and research synergies between the existing core competencies of centers and their partners Involves active participation of NARS partners from the South and contributes to capacity building of NARS Elaboration of proposed scientific approaches and testable hypotheses that ensures science that is both excellent and relevant and logically addresses the complexity of issues through appropriate multi- disciplinarity. Clearly defined research outputs and proven competencies of partners to deliver Major research activities and expected outputs in a clearly defined timeframe which employs a multi-center mode of operation that enhances the efficiency and effectiveness of the CGIAR and coordination mechanisms with other partners Mechanisms for the delivery and dissemination of research outputs Impact pathways from the research outputs to outcomes and impact and demonstrable contribution to CGIAR goals Mechanisms by which progress along the relevant impact pathway will be facilitated, monitored and used Up-front funding strategy to attain objectives Donor interest and commitment? New funding attractor potential? Exit strategy for the time-bound CP
