These magazines appeal to me because of their exciting rebellious layout. I like how there are loads of layers creating a messy but organised layout. Slanted and distorted text also projects a rebellious and youthful theme. I like the use of colour in these magazines, bright colours such as red, yellow and pink are used to highlight important pieces of text.

The images of popular bands used are also appealing because they are the people I want to be reading about. A medium close up appears to be the most common photo style.

The titles of these magazines always remain in the same place, with the same style and colour. This helps to build brand recognition.

Q magazine does not follow the same messy and rebellious style as the other music magazines I have chosen. Q magazine have chosen a more upper-class, formal approach. The layout is neat and simple with formal fonts. This will appeal to an older audience (20-40).

Mojo magazine is usually aimed at an older audience, similar to Q magazine. You can see this because the images of bands on their front covers are usually older bands/artists like 'The sex pistols', 'Led zeppelin' and 'Bob Dylan'. Circulation figures:

These magazines are all aimed at an 18-25 year old audience, looking for a specific genre of music with a less commercial approach than magazines such as ‘NME’ or ‘Kerrang’. People who buy these magazines will be looking to read about the music and not the gossip. Each magazine is neatly lay out with appropriate images and colour for each genre. ‘Rock Sound’ uses dark colours and distorted text to appeal to an audience looking for rock/metal music. Whereas ‘Mixmag’ uses bright vibrant colours to appeal to an upbeat audience looking for club music. ‘Clash’ magazine uses more neutral colours projecting a serious, in-depth mood, appealing to an audience looking for less mainstream pop and indie music.
