Overview:

This is an evaluation proposal of Caledonian College of Engineering. This plan

aims to investigate the quality assurance of the Personnel, Curriculum/training

and Environment of the Caledonian College. It aims to detect the strengths and

weaknesses of this institution program. The Caledonian College is a non-

conventional academic institution which is in academic partnership with the

Glasgow Caledonian University in Scotland UK GCU. The Caledonian College

has more than 1200 graduation students and 1200 are studying now, also we take

this collage because it is a unique collage in the Sultanate and provide high-

quality education in engineering only and provide different offers for student

that they have job in same time.

Personnel:

The CCE Administrators, instructors and staff are highly qualified. Dr. Ahmed

Hassan Mohammed Al-Bulushi is the Acting Dean of the CCE. There is

administrative staff for LRCs, learning materials, LMS, admission and

registration and HRD. The academic staff possessed different qualifications such

as Doctorate and Master. The CCE provides various resources used for

technology training and resources such as LRCs; E-library .The course matches

international standards where it collaborates with Scottish Credit and

Qualification Framework, Glasgow Caledonian University in UK and approved

from ministry of higher education in Oman.

Curriculum/ training:

General Objectives

Providing students with the necessary knowledge and skills to continue

with their specialized courses.

Empowering students with general knowledge, which allows their

professional and technical specializations to have additional knowledge-

based and humanitarian dimensions, which enhance their level of

awareness.

Providing students with the cultural, developmental, and social

ramifications of their Arab societies.

Vision: A pioneering Arab Open University dedicated to building the science

and knowledge society.

Mission: Develop and disseminate knowledge, and build expertise according to

international quality standards without time or geographical barriers for the

sake of contributing and preparing manpower for development needs, and to

build science and knowledge society in the Arab countries.

Pedagogy: The AOU offers courses in IT and computer, English literature,

business and general studies. All of the courses are mainly delivered using

Moodle with a two-hours-lecture every two weeks. In addition, live lectures are

delivered online according to a specific schedule.

A variety of assessment methods are implemented like: exams, quizzes, projects,

researches, homework, etc…

The Admission of tertiary studies offers basic courses which aims to provide

students with necessary knowledge for their study (self-learning skills, language

skills, social and business science skills, Islamic and Arabic culture). These

courses are divided into compulsory courses and elective courses such as

MISSION To provide an innovative, creative and environmentally-aware learning experience for

those who seek technological education.

VISION To be the premier institute in the region for human resource development

through innovation, research and technological advancement so as to serve the

community.

VALUES Quality: Striving towards excellence through teamwork and sustained

effort.

Integrity: Behaving with the highest integrity and transparency in all

aspects of work.

Leadership: Instilling, in students the leadership qualities to motivate and

transform society.

Innovation: Embracing and encouraging new knowledge, research and

entrepreneurial approaches.

Social

Responsibility:

Understanding the physical, cultural and social environment in

which we operate, respecting the rights and needs of all.

Ethics: Upholding the highest ethical standards in all activities and

imparting those ideals to students and staff.

Network Security course, Water treatment course, Maintenance Management,

and Health and safety course. Students who successfully complete these

programs will be eligible for an internationally recognized Bachelor of Science

Degree awarded by VIT University, Vellore, India.

Environment:

The CCE learning environment includes LRCs equipped with reference books,

newspapers, periodicals and access to the E-library. IT provides computer labs

and wireless internet.

This university is suitable for the two genders from different nationalities. The

CCE cares about the students societies and authorizes the student council to

communicate students’ suggestions to the administration. In addition,

Infrastructure is equipped with high-technology quality in order to provide an

appropriate environment for the interaction of students and teachers in order to

raise the performance of students and teachers.

Conclusion

In this research, we described the quality assurance plan applied at CCE. We

focused at the triangulation, which has a good relation in increasing the quality

and validity of the collected data in the three areas: Personnel, curriculum and

environment. It also helps in the assessment of the quality assurance of CCE.

This research has some limitations, which need to be developed in order to raise

the validity and quality of the teaching & learning processes. More elements of

the educational institution need to be included, such as financial and

administrative issues. The assessment tools also need to be distributed for a good

number of people and then it need to be analyzed and publish the results.

In recommendation, researchers need to search for more CCE educational

elements to collect and evaluate data in order to raise the CCE educational

quality. They need also to spread the assessment tools to the suitable research

sample.

In Our opinion, CCE is one of the leaders in private Higher Education Sector

in Oman. One of the institutions in private sector has permanent members of

Industry in curriculum design and development. There are many strong points

that we observed about the collage In terms of personnel, Curriculum/training

and Environment. Many development initiatives are organized and coordinated

by the central quality office to ensure that the quality of teaching remains at a

consistently high level. Teaching quality is also assured through the moderation

process. There is internal as well as external moderation of assessments to ensure

that these are in compliance with set standards, and of an appropriate level.
