Representation

In my opening sequence

Page 2: Representation

Our sense of self is organised according to various categories, those of gender, race, class, age and so on, as well as those encompassing different 'interest groups' which include, say, political, affiliation.

And the characteristics associated with these categories include the way we look, how we behave, the lifestyle, we adopt, even the car we buy. We come to recognise how certain characteristics are considered more or less socially appropriate or acceptable

Media products tend to represent different social groups such as teenagers, the elderly, the divide between rich and the poor. The reason why media institutions do this is to target certain social group of audiences to make them feel similar to the main character.

The target audience in my film will be males and females aged around 15-25. My opening sequence don't focus to target only one specific audience, like for example romantic comedies are mostly dominated by female audience and adventure film by male viewer. I think that will be appeal to people who would enjoy an good horror film

My opening sequence it is play by the teenage generation, which I focus on representing. The teenage are shown as immature, eccentric and curious in some way. During planning stage i was watching opening sequence of different horror films, my favourite one was The Black Witch Project and Paranormal activity. When i plan my opening sequence. I was try to create similar atmosphere like in my favourite films. A group of teens meets and goes to the forest, believing that a legend is true. Teenage tries to evoke the spirit of 'Unknown' suddenly in the Forrest, start happening strange things. The boy has visions of events from the past. The boy sees a woman who resembles his friend. She was brutally Murdered by a fiancé. The spirit of 'Unknown' keeps track their every move, in the end the girl disappears and cries for help

Concluding I would like to say that representation refers to the Ideas about what people are like and how they are meant to be understood already prevail in our culture. They give meaning to our sense of self and allow us to position ourselves in relation to others. Such meaning and attitudes are reproduced in representation but the way representation are constructed is as important the idea and meaning they project, since they offer positions for us, through which we recognise the images as similar or different from ourselves. We continually define ourselves in changing relations to these which are legitimated by social or cultural context change as well.
