BLOOD DONATION AWARENESS RALLY IN COLLABORATION WITH
SKS HOSPITAL
On 18th
June 2016, our Sona NSS wing took participation in “BLOOD DONATION
AWARENESS RALLY” which was conducted by SKS hospital. Around 50 NSS students,
doctors of SKS hospital and many nursing students participated in this rally. Our volunteers
started our rally from Sona college of Technology at 7.00am. Our volunteers carried awareness
boards to create awareness among people. Our volunteers reached the SKS hospital’s blood bank
by 8.45am. The doctors explained the importance of blood donation. Finally volunteers reached
our college by 11.00am.
YOGA DAY CELEBRATION
On June 21st 2016, INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY celebration was held in Sona
auditorium. Around 38 volunteers of our Sona NSS wing took participation in yoga celebration.
The programme commenced by 8.00am. The guest of honour for the program was “Hari Shankar
Verma”, Salem Railway Division Manager. Our NSS volunteer students, TPT student and school
students of Salem performed yoga. Also our volunteers involved in serving food and helped in
maintaining the crowed. The program successfully ended by 12.00pm.
ORIENTATION PROGRAM
On 14th
July 2016, our Sona NSS wing organized an Orientation program in C.V.
Raman hall to enhance and motivate the volunteers of NSS. Around 87 volunteers took part in
this program. This program commenced by 4.30pm. Many motivational videos were displayed
for volunteers regarding NSS. The alumni of Sona NSS also shared their valuable experience
which inspired our volunteers. The event ended by 6.00pm.
AGRI INTEX EXPO IN COLLABORATION WITH INTEC TECHNOLOGY CENTRE
On 17th
July 2016, AGRI INTEX EXPO was organized by Intec technology centre at
Codissia,Coimbatore. The event was started around 7.00am. This expo is to give awareness
about the modern farming, modern agricultural methods and machines. Six members of our sona
NSS volunteers and 120 farmers from our adopted village Kandarkulamanickkam
participated in this event. The villagers eagerly visited each counter and gained many
information. Finally the programme was ended by 5.30pm and our volunteers reached our
college by 7.00pm.
FRESHER’S DAY
On 21st July 2016, our SONA NSS Wing participated in Fresher’s day program which
was held in SONA auditorium to welcome the emerging engineers of SONA. Around 68
volunteers participated in this event. The inauguration program commenced by 8.00am. The
chief guest of the function was “Mr. Stanley George”, Vice President and head HR of south
Indian “Hex wane technologies limited” addressed the gathering. Our volunteers were also
involved in maintaining the world and serving lunch. The program was successfully ended by
4.00pm.
ROTARY CLUB’S BLOOD DONATION CAMP
On 23rd
July 2016, BLOOD DONATION CAMP was organized by Salem Rotary club,
near Jagir Ammapalayam, Steel plant road. Our Sona NSS also took part in this camp. Around
10 volunteers participated in this camp. The event started by 9.30 am. Our volunteers involved in
checking Blood Pressure for the donors and also helped in registration works. Ten donors from
our college donated O +ve blood in this camp. The event ended by 6.30 pm.
ALUMNI MEET
On 13th
August 2016, Alumni meet was held in our college to welcome the Alumni of
Sona. The event was started around 9.00am. Around 200 alumni participated in this event and
50 NSS volunteer helped the organizer. NSS volunteers directed the alumni to ECE conference
hall where many event were conducted for the alumni our NSS volunteers helped them in
arranging desks. Our NSS volunteers were also involved in serving lunch and helped in
maintaining the crowd. The program was successfully ended by 3.00pm.
INDEPENDENCE DAY
On 15th
August 2016, our NSS volunteers participated in 70th
INDEPENDENCE DAY
celebration held in our College premises. The function started at 8:00am with the hoisting of our
tricoloured flag by our principal Dr.M.USHA. Around 70 volunteers participated in this event
and also NCC Cadets, Students and faculty members took part in this function. The Principal
delivered a thought provoking speech which inspired the students. National anthem was followed
by the Principal speech. The function ended at 10.00am.
SELECTION TEST
On 16th and 17th August 2016, Our Sona NSS wing conducted selection test for the first
year students. Around 200 first year students took part in the event. The event started by 4.30pm.
The First year volunteers were interviewed by the programme officers. The event ended by
6.30pm. Finally 150 first year students were selected as NSS volunteers by our programme
officers.
TREKKING WITH FOREST DEPARTMENT OF SALEM
On 21th August 2016, our sona NSS wing organized trekking to yercaud in theme of
“Plastic Eradication”. About 115 volunteers actively participated in this event. We started
from our college by 7.00am and reached Yercaud foothills by 7.30am. We started trekking by
7.45am. We reached Kundoor village by 11.30am and our volunteers conducted many events
like as singing, dancing and puzzles for the children in the village. Our volunteers reached the
top of the hill by 1.30pm and returned to college by 3.00pm.
NSS DAY EVENTS
Our NSS wing conducted many events for first year and second year volunteers regarding
NSS day celebration
DAY 1:
On September 17th
2016, Quiz event was conducted for second year volunteers. The
event was started by 4.30pm. Around 86 volunteers took active participation in this event. On the
same day, Ad-zap was also conducted for the volunteers. They were given a topic and asked to
promote the product given to them. Around 86 volunteers participated in this event. The event
ended by 6.30pm.
DAY 2:
On September 19th
2016, Treasure hunt event was conducted for second year
volunteers. The event was started by 4.30pm..The event ended by 6.30pm.
DAY 3:
On September 20th
2016, Multimedia and poster presentation events were conducted
for second year volunteers. Topics were given to them in prior. Event was started by
4.30pm.Volunteers presented their multimedia and poster by their creative and different ideas
.Around 11 volunteers participated in this event. The event ended by 6.30pm.
DAY 4:
On September 21st 2016, Paper presentation, Wordsworth and JAM events were
conducted for second year volunteers. The events started by 4.30pm. Around 100 volunteers
participated in this event. The event ended by 6.30pm.
DAY 5:
On September 23rd
2016, Connection event was conducted for first year volunteers. The
event was started by 4.30pm.Around 26 volunteers actively participated in this event. Different
connections were displayed to the volunteers and they were asked to find the correct answer. The
event ended by 6.00pm.
CLEAN INDIA IN COLLABORATION WITH SOUTHERN RAILWAY
On September 22nd
2016, Our Sona NSS volunteers involved in creating awareness about
Swachh Bharath in Salem Railway Junction .The Chief Guest of this event was the
“Assistant Divisional Railway Manager” of Salem division. Around 50 NSS volunteers of our
college coordinated with the organizers of Southern Railways. The event started by 9.45am. The
Chief Guest encouraged and motivated our volunteers to keep the Salem city clean and tidy. Our
volunteers involved in issuing the pamphlets to the passengers. The event ended by 10.45am and
the volunteers returned to the college by 11.00am.
NSS DAY AND BLOOD DONOR DAY CELEBRATION
On 28th
September 2016, Our Sona NSS wing celebrated the 48th
NSS Day and Blood
donor day. Around 150 volunteers actively took part in this event and was started by 5.00 pm.
The chief guest was Dr. P. Kathirvel Kumar M.S. MCH., Oncologist, Dr. R. Pitchai M.D.,
Transfusion Medicine. The chief guest motivated the students by giving speech about blood
donation and they gave awareness about cancer. The NSS Programme Officer
Asst.Prof.P.Iyyanar , and Asst. Prof. P. Jayaprakash distributed the certificates to the winners of
NSS day events. The event ended by 6.30 pm.
PATTIMANDRAM IN COLLABORATION WITH SURYAN F.M.
On 6th
November 2016, our Sona NSS wing volunteered in Pattimandram, held at
Senthil public school near Jagir Ammapalayam, Salem. The judge of the Pattimandram was
Mr.Saloman Pappaiya. The event was organized by Suryan F.M. and Senthil public school. The
event started by 4.00pm. Around 10 volunteers involved in crowd management, ticket
verification, seats allotment and parking maintenance. The program ended by 6.30pm.
MEGA JOB FAIR - 2016
On 10th
Dec 2016, our Sona NSS wing involved in ‘Mega job fair’ organised by Sona
College of Technology. The job fair offered various jobs for candidates from sona and other
college students. Around sixty volunteers participated in this event. The program started by 7.00
am. Many students from Sona and other colleges attended this event. Our volunteers involved in
registration works, help desk and assisted with HR. The program successfully ended by 5.00pm.
SWACHH BHARAT
From 3rd
January 2017 to 7th
January 2017 our Sona NSS wing, took active participation
in “SWACHH BHARAT” which was emerged by our honourable Prime Minister
Mr.Narendhra Modi. Around 20 NSS volunteers involved in taking images of uncleaned areas
nearby 5roads, Seelanaickenpatti and Hasthampatti zonal. Every day our volunteers started
their works at 10.30 am and through “SWACHHATA-MOUD APP” they posted complaints
about uncleaned areas. Our Salem municipality had cleared 350 complaints out of 450.
MEASLES RUBELLA VACCINE CAMP
Our Sona NSS wing participated in the Measles Rubella vaccine camp survey from 9.1.2017
to 11.1.2017. Our NSS volunteers started the survey at 10.00 am. Around 100 volunteers
involved in explaining the “IMPORTANCE OF THE MEASLES RUBELLA VACCINE”
and took survey about the children between the age of 9 months to 15 years in and around Salem.
The event ended by 1.30 pm.
DIGITAL TRANSACTION
The Sona NSS volunteers actively participated in the CASHLESS CAMPAIGN –
Digital Monitoring System (DMS) for VISAKA by the initiation of the Central Government.
The campaign started from 9.1.2017 to 11.1.2017. The event started at 10.00 am. 100 volunteers
involved in this campaign. NSS volunteers issued pamphlets, explained the importance of Digital
Transaction and helped the people to download the BHIM app in their phones. The volunteers
reached the college by 1.30PM.
REPUBLIC DAY
On 26th
January 2017, 68th
REPUBLIC DAY celebration was held in Sona College
ground. Our NSS wing participated in Republic day parade. The Event started by 8.15 am.
Around 50 volunteers took part in the Republic day parade. Our National Flag was hoisted by
Shri.C.Valliyappa, chairman, Sona College of technology in the august presence of
Dr.V.Jayaprakash, Industry connect, Dr.M.Usha, Principal, Sona college of Technology and
Dr.V.Karthikeyan, Principal, Thiyagarajar polytechnic college. The event ended by 11.30 am.
AMRITHA AMMA’S BLESSING EVENT
The NSS Wing of Sona College of technology participated in Amritha Amma’s event
which was organized by our management on 4.2.2017 and 5.2.2017. The event started by 9.00
am. Around 70 volunteers involved in crowd management, reception and car parking. The event
ended by 1.30 pm.
RALLY AND AWARENESS SEMINAR ON FAKE FINANCIAL
COMPANIES
On 14th March 2017, our Sona NSS wing took active participants in rally conducted by
Salem Police department. Around 140 NSS volunteers participated in rally, started from AVR
circle at 9:15am .At 10:00am the seminar started with welcome speech by M.Latha, Police
Inspector, CCIW, Salem. The gathering was addressed by the Principal of Sona College of
Technology Dr.M.Usha. The chief guest Mr.S.Ramu, Deputy Superintendent of Police, E.O.W.
gave awareness by his speech to the audience and played 7 short films about creating awareness
against “FAKE FINANCIAL COMPANIES”. The vote of thanks was given by M.Saraswathi,
Police Inspector, E.O.W., Salem. Finally the seminar ended by 11:15am.
SPECIAL CAMP
The important event of NSS is the 7 DAYS SPECIAL CAMP. It reveals the real service
from our volunteers. The main purpose of the camp is to create medical awareness among the
village people who doesn’t have proper medical knowledge and also provide with them free
general check-up and medicines.
From 10th
February 2017, the special camp was organized by our NSS Wing of Sona
College of Technology, Salem. We adopted 2 villages Kandarkulamanickam and Aandipatti. The
camp was held in order to promote awareness among the people and to uplift them self by self-
employment, the way to benefit in their own agricultural lands, their medical health and also
provided latest medical facilities available.
DAY 1:
On the first day (10.02.2017) of the special camp, the volunteers reached the
Kandarkulamanickam camp site by 10.00 am. Instructions were given to the volunteers, and
we inaugurated our camp with prayer. The volunteers started interacting with the people by
10.45 am in both the villages (Kandarkulamanickam & Aandipatti). They distributed
pamphlets and explained about the various events that are going to be conducted during the
seven days of the camp to the village people and enquired about the various needs of the
people.
In the afternoon session, the volunteers shared their views about the village and the
villagers, discussed and analysed the various problems faced by the villagers and came up with
the ideas for development that could be done to the villagers and the village. The session ended
by 6.00 pm and we reached the college by 7.00pm.

DAY 2:
On the second day (11.02.2017) of the special camp the volunteers reached the camp site
by 09.30 am. In the morning session, ENT CAMP was organized to the villagers by
“SARAVANA ENT CARE, SALEM” in Kandarkulamanickam village. Around 70 people
were examined by the ENT specialist and got benefited by the camp.
In afternoon session, “One Day Farmer” was held through which our volunteers learnt
about crops and the farming techniques used by the villagers to yield crops, Simultaneously, 37
NSS volunteers visited biogas plant in the village and learnt about the formation and effective
usage of BIOGAS instead of LPG. The events ended by 06.00 pm. Finally NSS volunteers
reached the college by 07.15 pm.
DAY 3:
On the third day (12.02.2017) of our special camp, our NSS volunteers reached the camp
site by 09.00 am. In the morning session, “GENERAL CAMP” was conducted by
“SURAKKSHA MULTI SPECIALITY HOSPITAL”, Salem in Kandarkulamanickam. Our
NSS volunteers were involved in canvassing the villagers of Kandarkulamanickam and
Aandipatti. And they helped the villagers to get examined. In the camp, Blood Pressure, Sugar
level and general check-up were done at free of cost to the people. Around 100 people of
Kandarkulamanickam and Aandipatti villagers were benefited by the camp. Meanwhile, a
seminar on “Breast Cancer Awareness” was conducted by Dr. Sathyabama, HOD of Computer
Science and Engineering department, Sona College of Technology in Kandarkulamanickam.
In the afternoon session by 03.00 pm, a seminar on “Self Employment” was conducted
by CSRI. And by 04.00 pm, an awareness seminar about “Economical Terrace Gardening”
and its maintenance was explained to our NSS volunteers. The session ended by 05.45 pm. Our
NSS volunteers returned to the college by 07.00 pm.
DAY 4:
On the fourth day (13.02.2017) of our special camp, our NSS volunteers reached the
camp site by 09.40 am. In the morning session, “E-LEARNING” was conducted in
Kandarkulamanickam village at 10.15 am. Our NSS volunteers explained about MS word, MS
power point, MS excel, paint and browsing to the school students of Kandarkulamanickam and
Aandipatti. Meanwhile, a seminar on “The Child Welfare Awareness” was conducted for
parents to making aware of child care by Dr.Vinothini kirubagaran. M.B.B.S.,
D.Ch.,M.Sc.,(Psychology), Inner Vision Children Clinic, Salem. And the saplings were
distributed to audience.
In the afternoon session, an awareness seminar on “E-BANKING” was conducted by
Mr.A.Udhayakumar(Chief Manager), Mr.A.K.Palanivel Rajan(FLCC Councilor) and
Mr.E.Karthick(Marketing Manager) of Indian Bank, Salem. Around 50 NSS volunteers took part
in the event and they learnt about various digital transaction modes. Meanwhile, “YOGA
EVENT” was conducted to school students in Kandarkulamanickam by Dr. Malathi. The events
ended by 05.00 pm. And our NSS volunteers returned to the college by 07.00 pm.
DAY 5:
On the fifth day (14.02.2017) of our special camp, the NSS volunteers reached the camp
site by 09.45 am. In the morning session, a seminar on “ORGANIC FARMING” was
conducted in Kandarkulamanickam village by Mr.Rangarajan & Mrs.Sasikala at 10.00 am. 40
NSS volunteers took part of that event. And 30 NSS volunteers involved in
“REJUNEVATION” of our village. They took active participation in revamping of library,
Temple and school. The event ended by 1.30 pm. And our NSS volunteers returned to the
college by 4.00 pm.
DAY 6:
On the sixth day (15.02.2017) of our special camp, our NSS volunteers reached the camp
site by 9.45 am. In the morning session our NSS volunteers involved in distributing and planting
150 saplings and 5 varieties of vegetable seeds in and around Kandarkulamanickam and
Aandipatti.
In the afternoon session, a demonstrative seminar on “Cardiac attack awareness” by
Dr. Venkatachalam, Disaster Management and First Aid Trainer, Maruthi blood bank, Salem,
was conducted in Kandarkulamanickam. The event ended by 5.45 pm and our NSS volunteers
returned to the college by 6.45 pm.
DAY 7:
On the seventh day (16.02.2017) of our special camp, our NSS volunteers reached the
Kandarkulamanickam camp site by 10.00 am. Our volunteers were engaged in conducting events
like scattered letters, Thirukural, jumbled words, pictures identification, things
identification and writing, storytelling, quiz, connections, missing letters, drawing, speech
for school students in both the villages. Informative chart works and science models were also
displayed and explained by our NSS volunteers in the classrooms. Prizes were distributed to the
winners of various events conducted in both the schools. Meanwhile, 10 NSS volunteers were
involved in survey and other 10 NSS volunteers were engaged in learning about the weaving
machine used by the villagers and the process of producing clothes.
In the afternoon session, an awareness seminar on “Tuberculosis” was conducted by
Government Doctor, Magudanchavadi. Finally our special camp ended with valedictory function
in Kandarkulamanickam village. Our NSS volunteers reached the college by 6.45pm.
BLOOD BRIGADE’17 - MARATHON
On 26th
March2017 (Sunday), our Sona NSS wing organized Marathon event “BLOOD
BRIGATE’17” for the first time on the theme of “Voyage to Eminence” to create awareness
on Blood donation and Organ donation . The Chief Guest of this event was Dr .V. Jaya
Prakash, Director, Sona College of Technology, Industrial connect. Spot Registration started by
4.00 am and T-shirts and chest numbers were provided. Rules and Regulations were explained to
the participants by our organizers. At around 6.15am, our Chief Guest and NSS Programme
officers Dr. P.Iyyanar, Asst. Prof and Dr. P. Jaya Prakash, Asst. Prof started the event by
giving green signal. Totally 567 participants participated in this Marathon. Men, Women,
Children and aged people participated in this event. Our NSS volunteers of 150 in number
involved in this event. Then our Chief Guest and NSS Programme officers addressed the
Marathon racers and issued the certificates and cash prizes to the winner’s. All the participants
were provided participation certificate. Many participants accepted for donating Organ and
Organ donation card was given to them by our Chief Guest. The event was successfully ended by
9.15am.
POLIO CAMP
On 2nd
April 2017, our NSS volunteers participated in POLIO IMMUNIZATION CAMP
organized by Salem Municipality. The event started by 8.00 am. Around vounteers actively
participated in the event. Our volunteers actively participated in the event. More than 4500
children were vaccinated. We covered areas of Kamanayakanpatti, Maamangam, Aandipatti,
Kumaran nagar, Redipatti, Solambhalayam. The event ended by 2.00 pm and our volunteers
reached our college by 2.30pm.
