SUMMARY

The Fort Hope Gold Mine claims include three claims for a total of 14units comprising part of the Opikeigen Lake property, a block of 148 contiguous claims jointly owned by Slam Exploration Ltd. of Miramichi, New Brunswick and Pure Gold Minerals Inc. of Vancouver, BC. In addition to the old Fort Hope Gold Mine, the property covers six zones of gold mineralization known as Zones 29, 12, 41, 41-Extension, Rond Lake and Rich Lake occurrences.

These gold occurrences are hosted in highly sheared felsic and mafic volcanic rocks of the Uchi greenstone belt, aligned along an easterly trending axis over a strike length of 10 km. The Fort Hope Mine and the Rich Lake zone was discovered early in this century, the rest were discovered by Noramco Exploration Ltd. in the late 1980's.

In 2001 an exploration program including prospecting and rock sampling was conducted on the Fort Hope Mine claims. The purpose of this program was to search for new outcrops in the area to the southeast of the Fort Hope mine.

An outcrop of gabbro was found near the south boundary of the property. Seven samples of pyritic gabbro and quartz vein material were collected and submitted to X-Ral Laboratories in Don Mills, Ontario. None of the samples contain anomalous gold.

It is concluded that further work be done in conjunction with exploration on the contiguous Opikeigen claims. The assessment file data from previous exploration on the Fort Hope Gold Mine should be compiled.

INTRODUCTION

The Opikeigen Lake Property is jointly owned by Slam Exploration Ltd. of Miramichi, New Brunswick and Pure Gold Minerals Inc. of Vancouver, British Columbia. This report summarizes results of exploration on claims 1230767 to 1230769 known as the Fort Hope Mine claims during June, 2001. On behalf of Slam Exploration, prospecting was conducted by Daniel Waswa and Loyd Roe, both residents of Fort Hope on June 16, 17, 23, 24 of 2001. Nine samples were collected. Seven samples were submitted for laboratory analysis.

LOCATION, ACCESS and PHYSIOGRAPHY

The Opikeigen Lake Property is located in northern Ontario, approximately 145 kilometers east of the town of Pickle Lake and 13 kilometers northwest of Fort Hope (Figure 1). The claims lie within the eastern portion of the Uchi Lake Greenstone Belt, roughly bounded by the southern shoreline of Opikeigen Lake on the north and Rond Lake on the east.

Access to the property is via floatplane from Pickle Lake or, alternately, by ferry from Fort Hope, 40 minutes away. Fort Hope is serviced daily with commercial Beechcraft and Caravan flights originating from Thunder Bay, Ontario.

Much of the topography in the vicinity of Fort Hope consists of wet bogs or thick muskeg. Topographic relief is generally low to flat-lying with the exception of a few drumlinoid ridges. Most of the property is covered by muskeg or esker-like glacial features composed of sand and boulders. Outcrop exposures are few.

HISTORY

Exploration in the Fort Hope area began with the discovery of the Fort Hope Gold Mine occurrence in 1927. A shaft was sunk on an auriferous quartz vein located near a sheared contact between pillow basalts and mafic volcanic flows, some 300 metres south of the Opikeigen Lake property boundary. Over 100 metres of lateral development followed. Two vein systems referred to as the "Shaft" vein and the"California" vein were explored in trenches and underground. Grab samples from the Shaft vein were reported to be as high as 9.37 ounces/ton (321 grams/tonne - Wallace, 1978). however, the vein pinched-out a short distance from the shaft. Work was discontinued in 1928 with no recorded gold production. The mine has since been periodically (1934, 1946, 1958) dewatered, explored and taken through feasibility studies but the property has remained idle since 1959.

A brief staking rush followed the discovery of the Fort Hope Mine and additional gold showings were discovered, including the Rich Lake occurrence, which is situated within the Opikeigen Lake property, and the Reserve Lake Deposit, located 15 kilometres southeast of the property, within the Eabametong First Nations Reserve. A composite sample from the Rich Lake occurrence was reported to grade 0.13 opt (4.46 gpt) and Q.65% WOa (Wallace, 1978). The Reserve Lake deposit, which has been explored periodically from the 1930's to 1984, has an estimated resource of 150,000 tons (136,050 tonnes) grading 0.28 opt (9.6 gpt). The Fort Hope area has been the subject of numerous government mapping programs, notably: Burwash (1929), Prest (1942) and Wallace (1978).

Noramco Exploration Ltd. explored the Opikeigen Lake property between 1986 and 1989. At that time the Fort Hope Mine was staked by a third party. Noramco completed extensive ground and airborne geophysical surveys including magnetometer, VLF-EM, HLEM and induced polarization (IP) surveys, humus geochemistry, prospecting, geological mapping, trenching and channel sampling. Several of the IP targets were drilled, resulting in discovery of the Zone 12 and Zone 29 gold occurrences. Prospecting and detailed mapping led to the discovery of Zone 41, the Zone 41 Extension and the Rond Lake occurrence. A total of 52 diamond drill holes, totalling 9811.8 metres, tested mineralization in the Rich Lake occurrence, zones 12, 29, and 41 and other targets.

Gold mineralization was intersected in Zone 12 and defined over a strike length of 40 metres and to a depth of 200 metres. Four drill intersections ranged between 7.0 and 27.2 metres in width and returned 1.37 gpt to 6.22 gpt gold. Numerous narrower intervals contained much higher gold concentrations. Results from Zone 29 returned 1.0 to 2.1 gpt gold over generally broad intervals (up to 12.3 metres, averaging 5.52 metres) over a strike length of 450 metres. The best result was 1.66 gpt gold over 12.3 metres.

REGIONAL GEOLOGY

The Opikeigen Lake Property is situated within the Uchi Subprovince of the Superior Province, a subdivision of the Canadian Shield. The Uchi Subprovince is a 600- kilometre long greenstone belt that extends from Lake Winnipeg to the Hudson Bay Lowlands, hosting the Pickle Lake, Rice Lake, and world-famous Red Lake gold mining camps. In the Opikeigen Lake Area (Figure 3), the 15 kilometre wide greenstone belt is bounded on the north by the duff Lake Stock and on the south by migmatite and paragneiss (Wallace, 1978). The belt is composed of east-trending metavolcanic and metasedimentary rocks, believed to be isoclinally folded and metamorphosed to upper amphibolite grade metamorphism (Wallace, 1978). Based upon aeromagnetic interpretation, Wallace (1978) indicates that an east-west trending anticlinal fold axis extends from Opikeigen Creek, between Rond and Opikeigen Lakes, to the Lilypad Lakes area, west of the property. This theory is supported by 'tops' indicators found in pillow lavas found along the margins of the belt.

GEOLOGY OF THE FORT HOPE GOLD MINE CLAIM

The Fort Hope Gold Mine claim is underlain mainly by a thick succession of mafic flows and pillow basalts with minor mafic tuffs and intermediate pyroclastic units. These mafic flows are bounded to the north by a ductile shear zone which controls the gold-bearing mineralization in Zones OL12, 29 and 41. The Shaft Vein and California Vein are hosted in a shear near the contact between basalt flows and mafic agglomerates and tuffs. Grab samples from the Shaft vein were reported to be as high as 9.37 ounces/ton (321 grams/tonne - Wallace, 1978). Significant gold values were obtained from both surface and underground workings as shown on Figure 4.

PROSPECTING PROGRAM

The area southeast of the Fort Hope Mine site was prospected by Daniel Waswa and Loyd Roe, both residing in Fort Hope, Ontario. Several north-south prospecting traverses were completed as shown on Figure 5.

Nine samples were collected and sent to the Slam Exploration office at 115 Whalen Street, Miramichi, New Brunswick. The samples were comprised of quartz vein material and gabbro with pyrite mineralization in the gabbro wallrocks. Seven samples numbered 688052 to 688058 were submitted to X-Ral Laboratories in Don Mills, Ontario for gold assay. Results are included in Appendix l.

RESULTS

The observed outcrop is part of a gabbro unit located near the south boundary of the property. Although the gabbro samples were mineralized with pyrite and some samples contained quartz vein material, no anomalous gold values were reported by the laboratory.

CONCLUSIONS

Exploration in the Opikeigen Lake area dates back to the 1927 discovery of the Fort Hope Mine gold occurence which borders the Opikeigen property. Surface trenching and an exploration shaft with some lateral development indicate high grade but erratic gold values in two narrow vein systems, the Shaft vein and the Calfornia vein.

The 2001 prospecting program conducted by Slam Exploration Ltd. covered an area east of the Fort Hope Gold Mine site. Quartz veins and pyrite mineralization were observed in an outcrop of gabbro to the southeast of the mine site. No anomalous gold mineralization was detected in the seven samples submitted for assay.

RECOMMENDATIONS

Further exploration is recommended in conjunction with proposed exploration on the contiguous Opikeigen claims to the north. Results of previous exploration should be compiled and added to the database for the Opikeigen property.
