REPORT ON THE ELECTROMAGNETIC SURVEYRED LAKE GOLD PROJECT
FAIRLIE AND BAIRD TOWNSHIPSCLAIM MAPS M. 2138 6, 2158
A.P. Pryslak February, 1982
INTRODUCTION
A program of linecutting and VLF-electromagnetic surveying
was carried out in May-June, 1981 over claims located in Baird and
Fairlie Townships, Red Lake Mining Division.
The claims are located about seven miles west of the town
of Red Lake, Ontario. Access is via the lake with the claims lying
along the south shore.
A contiguous grid of lines was cut and chained for pur
poses of survey control. The grid lines are spaced at 200-foot
intervals with stations chained at every 100-feet. Readings were
taken at 50-foot intervals.
The instrument used was a Geonix E.M. 16 unit utilizing
the Cutler, Maine transmitting station.
GENERAL GEOLOGY
The claims lie within the Red Lake Greenstone Belt.
Detailed mapping was carried out over the grid with bedrock exposure
limited to about S-10% of the area.
Mafic metavolcanics are the dominant lithology. Intra-
formation sediments comprised of chert, argillite and sulfides occur
in the ares of 18+OOW, 14+OOS. These trend N70 0 E. Other metasedi-
mentary bands are interpreted from the VLF-EM data.
The metavolcanic - metasedimentary rocks arc- intruded by
a series of gabbros. These tend to be very irregular in shape and
size.
Minor porphyry intrusions also cut the metavolcanics and
metasediments. Rocks of the Killala Batholith occur at the extreme
south end of lines 22+00 to 26+OOW, the control trending in a south-
east direction.
ELECTROMAGNETIC SURVEY RESULTS
The Fraser filtered data shows two anomaly trends: one is
essentially east-west and the second is southeast-northwest. The
latter trend tends to be discontinuous due to the limitations of
the computer plotting technique .
The east-west trends north of the baseline are interpreted
as being formational.
Two SE trending anomalies cross the baseline at 25+OOW
and 30+OOW. These anomalies coincide with weak magnetic features
and are likely due to thin sedimentary bands containing minor
pyrrhotite. A third SE trending anomaly extends from the baseline
at 38+OOW to approx. 32+OOS and 10+OOW. This feature is interpreted
as a major fault structure as it abruptly terminates a band of sedi
ments trending SW from 11+00S on 12+OOW to 15+OOS on 20+OOW.
RECOMMENDATIONS
The major fault and some of the intraformational sediments
should be tested by diamond drilling for potential gold mineralization,
