REPORT ON THE ELECTION OF CHAIRPERSON OF CHAIRERSON'S COMMITTEE

The following Chairpersons, including the Chair of Chairs were elected as per

Resolution of the Rules Committee:

• Agriculture, Rural Development, Conservation and Environment

• Finance, Economic Development and Tourism

• Public Safety and Provincial Affairs

• Transport, Roads and Public Works

• Education, Sports, Arts and Culture

• Local Government, Housing and Traditional Affairs

• Health and Social Development

• Standing Committee on Quality of Life and Status of Women, Children, Youth

and the Disabled

• Standing Committee on Provincial Public Accounts

• Chairperson's Forum Committee

MINUTES OF THE COMMITTEE MEETING HELD ON THE 27m MAY 2009

1. Opening and Welcome

The Executive Manager of Parliamentary Operations Ms Mamokwena Gaoreteiewe opened the meeting and welcomed all attendees and also acknowledged the presence of the Deputy Speaker Ms Veronica Kekesi. She explained the purpose of the meeting which was clearly to nominate chairpersons of Portfolio Committees and Standing Committees on Provincial Public Accounts and Quality of Life and Status of Women, Children, Youth and Disabled (QLSWCY&D). She also explained that the chairperson of the Committee on Chairpersons also to be nominated by chairpersons of committees.

3. Nominations

The following nominations took place-:

• Portfolio Committee on Local Government, Housing and Traditional Affairs

Hon member Paul Sebego was nominated by honourable member Modise seconded by honourable members Galeng, Mothupi, Rosho and Motladiile. There were no other nominations and honourable Sebego was duly elected as the chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Local Government, Housing and Traditional Affairs.

Portfolio Committee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Conservation and Environment

Honourable member Pelele nominated Honourable member Dodo Baloi, seconded by honourable mebers Motladiile, Modise, Sebego and Mokomele-Mothibi. As there were no other nominations honourable Dodo Baloi has been elected the Chaiperson of the Portfolio Committee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Conservation and Environment.

• Standing Committee on Quality of Life and Status of Women, Children, Youth and Disabled (QLSWCY&D).

Honourable members Baloyi nominated honourable member Auchalie Mothupi, seconded by honourable members Galeng, Motladiile, Modise and Mokomele-Mothibi. As there were no other nominations honourable Auchalie Mothupi has been duly elected as the Chairperson of QLSWCY&D Standing Committee.

• Standing Committee on Provincial Public Accounts(PPAC)

Honourable members Makume nominated honourable members Motlalepule Rosho and seconded by honourable members Modise, Mothupi, Motladiile and Mokomele-Mothibi without objections. Honourable member Motlalepule Rosho is the Chairperson of the PPAC.

• Chairpersons' Forum Committee

After all the chairpersons were elected, the chairperson of the Chairpersons Forum (Chair of Chairs) had to be nominated. The Chairperson of Agriculture, Rural Development, Environment and Conservation, Honourable Baloi nominated in absentia honourable members Raymond Elisha and was seconded by honourable members Modise and Mokomele Mothibi. There were no other nominations and hence honourable Raymond Elisha is duly elected as the Chair of Chairs.

• Portfolio Committee on Finance and Economic Development

Honourable member Rosho nominated honourable member Tebogo Modise, seconded by Honourable members Mothupi, Motladiile and Sebogo. There were no other nominations and Honourable Tebogo Modise is now the Chairperson of the Finance and Economic Development Portfolio Committee.

• Portfolio Committee on Public Safety and Provincial Affairs

Honourable member Patric Khosa Pelele was nominated by honourable members Baloi and seconded by honourable members Makume, Mothupi and Mokomele-Mothibi without any objections. Honourable Patric Pelele is the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Public Safety and Provincial Affairs.

• Portfolio Committee on Transport, Roads and Public Works

Honourable member Sebego nominated honourable member Yvonne Makume as the Chaiperson, seconded by honourable members Pelele, Rosho and Modise. Due to no other nominations honourable Yvonne Makume has been duly elected as the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Transport, Roads and Public Safety.

• Portfolio Committee on Education, Sports, Arts and Culture

Honourable member Fenny Motladiile was nominated by honourable member Mokomele-Mothibi, seconded by honourable members Baloyi, Modise , Sebogo and Galeng. Honourable Fenny Motladiile is duly elected as the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Education, Sports, Arts and Culture.

• Portfolio Committee on Health and Social Development

Honourable member Rosho nominated honourable member Mosetsanagape Mokomele-Mothibi seconded by honourable members Galeng, Mothupi and Motladiile. There were no other nominations and honourable Mosetsanagape Mokomele-Mothibi is the chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Health and Social Development.
