REPORT ON THE COMBINED AIRBORNE GEOPHYSICAL SURVEY

ON THE PROPERTY OF BEARDMORE RESOURCES LTD.,

GERMAN AND STOCK TOWNSHIPS, ONTARIO

INTRODUCTION

l l l l l On April 2, 1988 a combined airborne geophysical survey was

* completed on the Beardmore Resources Ltd. property in German and

l Stock Townships, Ontario. Magnetic and VLF-electromagnetic data

was collected by the airborne division of H. Ferderber Geophysics

J Ltd. The survey was flown from a base at Iroquois Falls,

. Ontario. A total of 107.2 miles of data was collected along

north-south flight lines,

l The magnetic survey provides information which helps

define the underlying geological structures and identifies any

l potential economic concentrations which may contain variations in

M accessory magnetic minerals. The VLF-electromagnetic survey

outlines conductive zones which may represent shear zones and/or

l metallic sulphide deposits containing gold mineralization.

PROPERTY DESCRIPTION, LOCATION AND ACCESS

l The Beardmore Resources property is composed of 81 claims in

one claim block in German and Stock Townships, Ontario. They

l cover approximately 1296 hectares and are registered with the

mm Office of the Mining Recorder at Timmins, Ontario and are listed

in Appendix 1.

l The property is located approximately twenty-four miles

east-northeast of the city of Timmins, four miles southeast of

l the town of Barbers Bay, and six miles west-southwest of the town

•m of Alert. Access can be obtained north off of Highway 101 by a

secondary road that extends into the claim block in German

l Township. As well, Highway 67 passes within 2-3 miles to the

west of the property, and Highway 577 is situated 6-7 miles east

l of the property.

m A gas pipeline lies to the north of the Beardmore claim

block, and cuts the three most northerly claims from southwest to

l northeast. As well, the property borders the Kettle Lake

Provincial Park along its western boundary.

l Physiography of the claim group is essentially that of a low

wm swampy area, having low relief. Approximately 95% of the

property is forested.

Supplies, services, and qualified manpower are readily

available locally in the Timmins area.

GEOLOGY

The Beardmore Resources property is located in the western

portion of the Abitibi Volcanic Belt of the Superior Province of

the Canadian Shield. The Abitibi Volcanic Belt extends for

nearly 350 miles in an east-west direction from Timmins to

Chibougamau. It is host to a variety of precious and base metal

deposits which includes the Timmins, Kirkland Lake, Noranda, Val

D'Or, and Chibougamau mining camps.

The Abitibi Volcanic Belt is composed of a complex

assemblage of interbedded volcanic and sedimentary rocks intruded

by a variety of intrusives from ultrabasic to granitic in

composition. The rocks are Archean in age and have been

metamorphosed to the greenschist facies. Numerous late

Precambrian diabase dykes cut formations of the belt. The rocks

generally strike; east-west, have a vertical dip and are highly

folded and faulted. Geological interpretation of the Abitibi

Volcanic Belt is complicated by both the wide scattering of

outcrops and the complex structural relationships.

The Ontario Department of Mines Geological CompilationlSeries, Timmins-Kirkland Lake Sheet, map 2205, outlines the

l geology underlying the property. According to Map 2205, the

Beardmore Resources Ltd. property is predominantly underlain by

B Early Precambrian Metasediments of conglomerate, siltstone,

j slate, argillite, and minor pebble conglomerate composition. Two

small elongated metamorphosed mafic and ultramafic bodies of

l periodotite, dunite, pyroxenite, and serpentinite composition are

located along the northwestern boundary and just north of the

B German township claim block.

M The major structural feature of the area is the east-west

striking Destor-Porcupine Fault, located approximately one mile

l south of the property. This major crustal dislocation has a

known strike length of 300 km, from the Timmins area in the west

B to Destor in western Quebec. O.D.M. Map 2205 also indicates that

the western extent of the Pipestone fault lies approximately 0.5

miles north of the claim block,

l Numerous gold deposits are associated with the Destor-

Porcupine Fault and its related structures. Foremost among these

are the deposits of the Timmins-Porcupine camp (ie. Mcintyre

Mine, Hollinger Mine, Ross Mine and Croesus Mine).

INSTRUMENTATION AND SURVEY METHODS

l The survey was completed using a 1972 Cessna 172, fixed-wing

aircraft, call letters CF'-EWK, owned and operated by H. Ferderber

l Geophysics Ltd. The pilot and navigator/operator were Y. Saucier

m and F. Longpre, respectively, of Val d 'Or. Geophysical sensors

were mounted in modified wing tips. The geophysical, navigation

l and data acquisition systems are described below.

l

m The magnetometer used was GEM Systems GSM-11, high

sensitivity airborne proton (Overhauser) magnetometer. The

l instrument continuously measures the Earth's magnetic field at a

0.01 gamma sensitivity for l reading per second or 0.05 gamma to

l 10 rocidings per second at a 0.1 gamma absolute accuracy. The

analog output is on 3 channels, from l to 10,000 gammas full

scale .

VLFHEM System

A Herz Totem 2A VLF-EM System was used to measure the

changes in the total field and in the vertical quadrature field

on two frequencies simultaneously, with an accuracy of J.%. The

primary transmitting station of Cutler, Maine, (NAA), frequency

24.0 KHz was employed in survey.

Radla r AJ t i me t e r

The ground clearance was measured with a King 10/10 A radar

altimeter. The survey was flown at a mean clearance of 300 feet

with the altimeter producing an accuracy of 5*^ (15 feet) at this

altitude.

Tracking Camera and Video Centre

A RCA TC-200 colour video camera and Galaxy 200 video

centre was used to record the flight path on standard VHS type

video tapes. Manual fiducials were indicated on the picture

frames for reference with digital printout. Flight path recovery

was aided using a Panasonic Colour Video Monitor-81300 and Video

Cassette Recorder AG-2500.

l Da ta J^cjjui sit i on System

A Picodas Group Inc. PDAS 1100 data acquisition system

l featuring seven analog inputs with two frequency inputs and

external interfacing was used. A Termiflex Corp. ST/32 Keyboard

l control unit and Sharp Corp. LCD display unit are connected to

m the data acquisition system. At present this system stores the

altimeter VLF-1 inphase, VLF-1 quadrature, VLF-2 inphase, VLF-2

l quadrature, magnetic field (coarse), magnetic field (fine), and

the fourth difference (noise), and fiducials on 3.5 inch floppy

l disk drive. The data is then printed out in digital and profile

m form.

The survey was conducted on north-south lines were flown at

l spacings of 440 feet at a speed of approximately 90 miles per

hour. Navigation was visual using airphoto mosaics, at a scale

of one inch to 1320 feet, manual fiducials and the flight path

recovery system as references.

DATA PRESENTATION

l Flight lines, fiducial points and geophysical responses

were reproduced from the airphoto mosaics at a scale of one inch

to 1320 feet (1:15,840). The outline of the claim blocks and

B claim map are shown on each map sheet.

The aeromagnetic data was corrected for diurnal

l variations by using a base line as reference. The data was then

reduced to a base level of 58,000 gammas, contoured at 20 and

B 100 gamma intervals and presented on Map MG-1.

B The VLF-EM was transferred from the Totem 2AG memory to

printed form. A base value was determined for the VLF-EM

l profiled data. These values were used to correct for variations

in transmitter strength and the corrected changes in the total

* field strengths were plotted on Map EM-1. The positive values

B were contoured at intervals of 2%. The conductor axes were

determined and labelled l, 2, 3, etc. No priority was attached

l to the labelling system.

SURVEY RESULTS AND INTERPRETATION

Magnetic Survey

The magnetic survey was successful in confirming the

underlying geology as indicated on O.D.M. Map 2205. Ninety

percent of the Beardmore Resources Ltd. property has a

consistently low magnetic signature with values ranging from 700

to 800 gammas above background. This indicates that the rocks

underlying these regions are relatively homogeneous in

composition, and contain similar amounts of magnetite. O.D.M.

map 2205 shows that Early Precambrian metasediments underlie this

area .

Along the northwestern boundary of the property is an east-

west striking elliptical shaped magnetic high with values up to

and in excess of 1100 gammas above background. This magnetic

high corresponds in position and shape to the presumed

metamorphic mafic and ultramafic bodies located north and along

the northern boundary of the German Township claim block.

Two conductive zones were outlined on the property by the

VLF-EM Survey.

J Zone l is a strong two-line conductor striking north-south

and located within the southeastern part of German Township. The

* conductor overlies a low swampy area and a creek which connects

l two small lakes located north and south of the conductor. The

strength and position of this conductor may be caused by

g conductive overburden or a change in topographic relief.

^ Conductor 2 is a short north-northeast to south-southwest

striking one-line conductor located in the southwestern corner of

l the claim block. This conductor may represent a shear within the

rocks of metasedimentary composition.

lm CONCLJJl SIGNSL AND RECOMMENDATIONS

l The results of the combined airborne magnetic and VLF-

electromagnetic surveys were successful in helping outline the

g geology and in delineating 2 conductive zones underlying the

^ Beardmore Resources Ltd. property in German and Stock Townships,

~ Ontario. The claims appear to have an elliptical shaped body of

metamorphosed mafic and ultramafic rocks along the northern

boundary of the property, while the rest of the property seems to

be underlain by relatively homogeneous metasediments with a low

magnetic signature.

H. FERDERBER GEOPHYSICS LTD.

l Further exploration work could be conducted over the

property in the vicinity of the possible bedrock conductor.

l Ground magnetic and horizontal loop-electromagnetic surveys

M could be performed to better define the underlying geology and

to delineate and classify the conductive zone.
