1 Report on 3 rd National Conference on Advances in Mechanical Engineering 17 th & 18 th December 2014 Organized by Department of Mechanical Engineering G.H. Raisoni college of Engineering, Nagpur has organized 3rd National Conference on ‘Advances in Mechanical Engineering’ (NCAME -14) during 17 th and 18 th December 2014. The conference was organized under National level Technical Research Paper competition for students-2014 (RGI-TRPCS-2014) under TEQIP-II in association with GHR Labs and Research centre, The Institute of Indian Foundrymen and Spacewood Furnishers Private Limited. The conference was aimed at bringing together the community of researchers and practitioners in India with a view to provide a forum for discussion on the latest advancements as also future directions in research in Mechanical Engineering domain areas and allied subjects. Research contributions were invited in tracks like Heat and Mass Transfer, Refrigeration and air conditioning, Computational Method in Thermal Engineering, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Non-Conventional Energy Sources, Optimization Technique, Dynamics and Vibration, CAD/CAE/CAM, Modeling and Simulation Technique, Stress Analysis, Robotics and Automation, Mechatronics, Supply Chain Management, Nano Technology and Manufacturing, Advanced Manufacturing System, Reliabilities and Maintenance, Design of Experimentation, Biomedical Engineering, Bio-Mechanics. The papers submitted were however not restricted to the above. The conference was inaugurated on 17th December 2014 in Swami Vivekananda Hall (F- 21) at 10.30 am by the hands of Dr. Milind D. Atrey, Professor of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Bombay in presence of Dr. P. R. Bajaj, Director GHRCE, Dr. P.B. Nagarnaik, Deputy Director & Dean Academics, Dr. A. Y. Deshmukh, Deputy Director, Dean Planning & Quality Assurance, Dr. U.S. Wankhede Dean R & D, Dr. P. V. Walke, HoD Mechanical Engineering Department, Dr. D. J. Tidke, Convener- NCAME 14 and all Heads and Deans.

Department of Mechanical Engineering, G.H. Raisoni college of Engineering, Nagpur

has organized 3rd National Conference on ‘Advances in Mechanical Engineering’ (NCAME -14)

during 17th

and 18th December 2014. The conference was organized under National level

The conference was inaugurated on 17th December 2014 in Swami Vivekananda Hall (F-

Bombay in presence of Dr. P. R. Bajaj, Director GHRCE, Dr. P.B. Nagarnaik, Deputy Director

& Dean Academics, Dr. A. Y. Deshmukh, Deputy Director, Dean Planning & Quality

Assurance, Dr. U.S. Wankhede Dean R & D, Dr. P. V. Walke, HoD Mechanical Engineering

Department, Dr. D. J. Tidke, Convener- NCAME 14 and all Heads and Deans.

The conference received good response from research community and received total 76

research paper. Out of total receive paper 68 papers were selected for presentation after peer

review. In all 24 papers were presented during the 5 technical sessions spread over the two day

conference.

A highly scholastic talk on ‘Advances in Cryogenics’ was delivered by Dr Milid Atrey,

Professor of Mechanical Engineering at IIT, Powai as the keynote address of the conference. He

is an eminent researcher of global fame in the area of cryogenics. He highlighted various

advances taking place in the wonderful world of cryogenics sciences and presented newer

applications and research areas. The talk was found highly stimulating.

All technical sessions were planned to present an expert talk by a senior engineering

professional since success stories of leading industries and research organizations were viewed

as catalysts and motivators to others to walk further on the path to excellence. Mr. Amol Joshi,

Dy. General Manager, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, Nagpur highlighted the management

perspectives of ‘Quality Circles’. ‘The developments and recent trends in furniture

manufacturing from manmade wood’ was dealt with by Mr. Nitin Sudame, Executive Director,

Spacewood Furnishers Pvt. Ltd. Nagpur. Mr. Atul Bansod, Consultant at ICOM, Nagpur

presented case studies on ‘Improvement of bearing performance through innovative overhauling

and maintenance of large steam turbines’. Dr. S.K. Nath, Joint Director of Central Power

Research Institute, Koradi an deliver expert talk on ‘The role of nondestructive testing in

evaluation of remnant life of plants and machineries’. Dr. Rakesh Shrivastava, Professor of

Mechanical Engineering at of Yashwanrao Chavan College of engineering, Nagpur, Dr. Arun

Kedar, Professor and Head of mechanical Engineering department, Priyadarshini Institute of

Engineering and Technology, Nagpur, Dr. Vilas Kalamkar, Associate Professor of Mechanical

Engineering at Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur, Dr. Santosh Jaju,

Principal of G.H. Raisoni College of Engineering for Women, Nagpur and Dr. S.K. Nath, Joint

Director of Central Power Research Institute, Koradi worked as session chairs and evaluated the

presentations.

Spacewood Furnishers Pvt. Ltd. Nagpur, the sponsors for the event, announced the

SPACEWOOD PRIZE of Rs 3000 and Rs 2000 for the best paper and the second best paper as

motivational support to student researchers.
