In Bucharest intercultural classes are generally of two kinds:

• Classes with students belonging to traditional minorities and groups long time integrated in Romanian society, as Rroma people in Bucharest

• Classes with students coming from families of rather recent immigrants such as foreign experts, investors, traders, mainly Arabic, Turkish and Chinese.

Page 7: Report of Romania organization

• In some of Bucharest schools, rroma children live and learn in multicultural classes where rroma traditions and culture create a special intercultural class-group.

• For more than 20 years Romanian authorities addressed rroma children problems by a various range of projects and programs focused on ensuring free access of education of rroma people, to study Romani language, creating special curricula including rroma traditions and culture and also helping disadvantaged families to raise and educate their children.

• There were complex projects, within all country: PHARE projects, now, projects funded by the European Social Fund.

• Through these projects, rroma families get counseling and resources to sustain their children in school, reduce school drop-out, violence, educational paths were opened and facilitate rroma children study.

• A rather recent educational intercultural environment is created by immigrant families of investors or foreign employers in international companies, in Bucharest.

• There are mainly wealthy and high educated families from different countries, mostly Arabic and Turkish that send their children to famous schools in Bucharest as international private schools.

• There are classes of students from different countries who have access to different educational resources and have also extremely high expectations from education they get in Bucharest.

• Modern private campuses were established and teachers all around the world were hired. These schools face high demand of educational efficiency along with dealing with an intercultural environment. They use international, British, American or French curriculum.

• The third kind of intercultural education phenomena is the one for all students, no matter of nationality or ethnic group, that future will require, and we, as teacher trainers aim to promote:

• Educating all Romanian students to learn, work and live in a globalize world of the future, preparing them to naturally integrate and valorize intercultural environments, being able to study and work wherever on this planet.
