INTRODUCTION:

Agriculture is a sector of extreme strategic priority, particularly for the countries like

Pakistan, endeavoring to balance export deficits as well as ensuring food security which is

undoubtedly an issue of prime importance that developing countries are facing today. Food

security is the key factor that penetrates to the heart of the concept of human survival. To meat

up these challenges Research and Development organizations are working on these concerns

every where. To crop the achievements of these institutions and take it to the rural masses

human resource development and technology transfer play a preeminent role in uplifting the

agriculture economy. Technology transfer mean a ‘system under which various inter-related

components of technology namely “hardware” (materials such as a variety), “software”

(technique, know-how, information), human ware (human ability), “orgaware” (organizational,

management aspects) and the final product (including marketing) are rendered accessible to

the end users”. The pace of technology transfer can only be matched if the farming community

is trained/ educated at the same speed. To institutionalize this activity, RAEDC was enacted in

1991.

Regional Agricultural Economic Development Centre (RAEDC), Vehari has adopted a

systematic approach to organize courses, right from the need assessment of the trainees till the

evaluation of courses. Teaching methods, course contents and training material is very carefully

selected with reference to target audience. Teaching methods used in training courses

generally involve lecture, field visits, hands-on training, group discussions, brain storming

sessions and case studies etc. During the course, each trainee not only has the opportunity to

share his experiences but also benefits from the fellow trainees.

RAEDC also organizes seminars, workshops and conferences to address agricultural

problems in the area in collaboration with agricultural oriented organizations. Trainings will

help the participants in understanding/solving farmer’s problems.In service training

programme, computer literacy programmes, seminars and urban women trainings are

conducted at campus where as farmers training programme and rural women training

programmes are conducted in villages (off campus).

RAEDC has assigned priority for professional capacity building of Agriculture scientists,

Researchers, Agriculture practitioners and farming community (small & medium farmers and

farm manager of absentee land lords) in the Punjab.The main objective of this centre is to

redress the farmer’s problem arising off and on due to socio-economic and agro-climatic

conditions through human resource development training to the farm managers. Career

development courses and other short term courses on management side are also the need of

the time and have been made mandate of this institute besides computer literacy. This is a

continuous process for which the requisite facilities have been developed at the campus.

This is a summary of the major activities which have been carried out at RAEDC in year

2014.15 in connection with mandatory and casual duties and objectives. It is to document and

share the the activities of this institute with other concerned quarters and contemporary

forums so that usefull suggestions could be collected for betterment and improvement of its

functioning.

ACHIEVEMENTS FOR THE FINANCIAL YEAR 2014-15.

Human Resource Development (HRD) Training Programme

The human recourse development (HRD) plays cordial role in every organization

especially working for the socio-economic uplift of rural community. The goal of (HRD) is to

improve the performance of organization by maximizing the efficiency of performance of

employees by developing their knowledge, skills, action, standard, motivation, attitude and

working environment.

Computer Literacy Programme

World today has changed a great deal with the aid of Information Technology (IT). The

importance of IT has been greatly influencing our own society. The computer has now emerged

out as the most useful and powerful tool yet developed, which has changed the information

needs of most of the people all over the world. The basic aim of IT trainings is to prepare skilled

officers/officials of agriculture department and youth of farming community also.

During the calendar year 2014-15, four (04) courses were organized under the caption

of “Certificate in Information Technology”. The course was 03 months duration offered to the

youth of farming community at a course fee of Rs.1800/- from candidates belonging to

Agriculture business. These courses were organized under given schedule:-

40th CERTIFICATE IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (CIT) FROM 16-06-2014 TO 12-09-2014 (03-MONTHS)

RAEDC has completed successfully 40thCertificate in Information Technology

(CIT) course specially organized for the youth of farming community which is the mandatory

activity of this Centre. The duration of the said course was three (03) months starting from 16-

06-2014 to 12-09-2014. Total sixty-nine (69) participants attended the course which was

divided into two groups due to the limited seating capacity in computer Lab.

COURSE INCOME

Course fee @ Rs. 1800/- were charged from each candidate belonging to

farming community. Total amount of Rs. 124200/- (One Lac, Twenty-four thousand & Two

hundred only) were deposited in Govt. treasury.

COURSE OUTLINE

The participants acquired skills on computer fundamentals, operating system (Windows-

07), Ms-Office-07 (Word, Excel, and Power Point), Inpage, and use of internet & search engine.

PROVISION OF STATIONERY

All the participants were provided with stationery and file folders for keeping

notes of the lectures and writing pad for exercise.

USE OF MULTIMEDIA

Multimedia facility was used for delivery of Lectures and imparting practical

training.

CLOSING CEREMONY

At the successful completion of this course a certificate ceremony was

arranged. Mian Muhammad Saqib Khursheed, Member Provincial Assembly, Punjab was

invited as chief guest to honour the celebration and distribute certificates among the successful

participants.

OVERALL EVALUATION

100 % participation of the trainees and the resource persons made the training

successful and succeeded to achieve their goal of this course and to play operative role in daily

life activities. A questionnaire was distributed among the participants for the evaluation of the

said course. The overall rating of the course as responded by the participants is excellent. 79 %

participants rated this course as excellent, 13 % very good, 7 % good and 1% has no response.

Haji Ahmad Shad, progressive farmer and District Officer Information distributed

certificates among the successful participants in the ceremony of certificate distribution at the

end of course.

OVERALL EVALUATION

Active participation of the trainees and the resource persons made the training

successful. A questionnaire was circulated among the participants for the evaluation of the said

course. The overall rating of the course as responded by the participants was excellent. 80%

participants rated this course as excellent, 11% very good, 7% good and 2% satisfactory.

RAEDC has completed successfully 42nd Certificate in Information Technology (CIT)

course from 15-12-2014 to 13-03-2015 or the youth of farming community which is the

mandatory and continuous activity of this Centre. Thirty two (32) participants were admitted in

this course, out of which only Thirty (30) participants were awarded the certificate.

COURSE INCOME

Course fee @ Rs. 1800/- (one thousand & eight hundred only) were charged from

each candidate joining this training. Total amount of Rs. 57600/- (fifty seven thousand & six

hundred only) were deposited in to Govt. treasury.

CLOSING CEREMONY

At the successful completion of the course a certificate distribution ceremony

was arranged. Mr Tahir Iqbal Ch. Member National Assembly (MNA), Vehari was invited as

chief guest to distribute the certificates among the successful participants.

OVERALL EVALUATION

100 % participation of the trainees and the resource persons made the training

usefull interesting and successful. The overall rating of the course as responded by the

participants in their final evaluation was excellent. 55% participants rated this course as

excellent, 25% very good and 20% as good.

43rd CERTIFICATE IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (CIT) FROM 16-03-2015 TO 12-06-2015 (03 MONTHS DURATION)

RAEDC has completed successfully 43rd Certificate in Information Technology (CIT)

from 16-03-2015 to 12-06-2015, as a continuous activity for the youth of farming community.

Forty one (41) participants were registered in this course, out of which 34 participants were

awarded the certificates. Rest of 7 participants failed due to poor attendance.

COURSE INCOME

Curse fee @ Rs. 1800/- (one thousand & eight hundred only) were charged from

each candidate belonging to agriculture sector. Total amount of Rs.73800/-(Seventy three

thousand & eight hundred only) were deposited in to Govt. treasury.

OVERALL EVALUATION

Maximum participation of the trainees and 100% participation of the

resource persons made the training successful. Before the certificate distribution

ceremony, the participants were asked to evaluate the course through a questionnaire

already designed for this purpose. The overall rating of the course as responded by the

participants in their final evaluation is excellent. 60% participants rated this course

excellent, 15% very good, 17% as good and 8% gave no response.

URBAN WOMEN TRAINING PROGRAMME

Education and skills are key of achieving economic and social prosperity. Women are more than half of the total population in Pakistan. Women play a vital role in uplift of the society. RAEDC cannot ignore the role of women in society. RURAL POULTRY DEVELOPMENT COURSE FOR FEMALE FROM 18-02- 2015 TO 03-03-2015 RAEDC has successfully completed course on “Rural Poultry Development” for women

community. The subject cited training course was organized from 18-02-2015 to 03-03-2015 at campus. The objective of this course is to enrich small farmer and landless labour families through a more holistic and self-reliant approach not only in terms of improvement of income, employment and nutritional status but also fostering community development, gender empowerment and protection of environment, is envisaged on the larger canvass of ‘rural development’ using poultry as a tool.

The resource persons/guest speakers were approached for delivering lectures to the

participants. The expert speakers also engaged the participants in group discussion and brain storming

which has good effect on capacity building. They delivered the lecture as per schedule.

SUGGESTIONS FROM PARTICIPANTS

Such type of training should be conducted by RAEDC every year.

Livestock, poultry and dairy courses should be offered for farmers.

Course duration should be six month to one year.

Field survey and more field visits should be included.

The basic aim of this seminar is to promote a culture of non-violence and peace. This

programme seeks to empower rural youth to take up an ethical leadership role in their

community. It is a process of self-transformation amongst participants that result in positive

and lasting changes of mindsets. Participants are introduced to foster personal skills through

games, role-plays, simulation and visualization exercises, storytelling and artistic platforms.

Career counseling moves the youth out of their comfort zone while at the same time

creating a safe and respectful environment where they are not told what to think or do but

where solutions are explored together. The speakers tried to figure out the auidence who you

are and what you want out of your education, your career and your life. The purpose of

seminar is to identify the factors influencing career development, to determine next steps and

develop a plan to achieve the goals.
