The Replacement Naval Hospital

Camp Pendleton Project employs between 500

and 1,000 construction workers daily.

Replacement Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton will support

a patient population of roughly 157,000 with a staff of approximately 2,400 military and civilian personnel. The hospital will feature state-of-the-art equipment and increased accessibility, including a helipad providing outbound medical evacuation via air. A new MRI machine and an extremity MRI machine for arms, hands, feet, and legs will be located inside of the hospital for patient convenience and comfort.

More than 2,500 new parking spaces are being added under the scope of this project. New

surface lots and a 4 story, 1,500 space, parking garage are being constructed. A pedestrian bridge will connect the parking structure to the 2nd floor of the hospital for direct access to common outpatient clinics. Additional construction includes a central utilities plant (CUP), that is equipped to sustain full hospital operations for 96 hours in the event of a natural disaster. The CUP will provide day-to-day heating/cooling services to the hospital.

The new 500,000 SF, 4 story, state-of-the-art facility will be fully

operational in December 2013!

Structural Steel: Replacement Naval Hospital

Camp Pendleton contains 4000 tons of steel. The weight of structural steel utilized is equivalent to the weight of approximately 20 blue whales.

Stone: The exterior of the facility contains 28,594 SF of

stone. This is the equivalent of approximately 6 NBA basketball courts covered in stone.

Concrete: The structure of the replacement hospital

contains over 18,000 cubic yards of concrete. This is the equivalent of approximately 5.5 olympic swimming pools full of concrete.

Window Systems: Replacement Naval Hospital

Camp Pendleton boasts 92,000 SF of Window Systems. This is approximately 1.5 times the total square footage of the White House.

The replacement hospital features interiors that

were designed to promote a healing and calming environment. The sun filled atrium, central courtyard, and healing garden create natural and serene environments for patients and their families. A 1.2 mile walking path will surround the hospital compound. The path will feature 20 pieces of exercise equipment at 6 stations to promote health and wellness. A path leading to the South Mesa Club will also be constructed to the east of the hospital.

LEED® is the internationally recognized green bldg.

certification system that is designed to promote a whole-building approach to environmental sustainability. The Replacement Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton project is projected to earn LEED® Gold certification. This achievement will be realized due to the implementation of various green building design features, including but not limited to: green roofs, solar cells, horizontal and vertical sun screens, maximized use of recycled materials, and low-flow plumbing fixtures. All of these features will reduce overall hospital energy consumption. ◊
