From the President
Hi Rep Club members and friends!
So we zoomed along through the last month, with some fun events going on at the Rep Club.
The short play season - Light & Dark - was well received, and we all had a great time with Stage Left
and Merredin Repertory Club joining us for the short play festival - Down the Line. It was great to
build relationships and perform some of our works to each other.
We will be holding another social movie night on the 27th of April, planned to be The Wizard of Oz.
Food and dessert will be available for preorder.
You may have heard of our upcoming Kalghoulie Ghost Tour. It seems to be gaining a lot of interest
lately. We are aiming for around 30 people, and when that session fills up, we will look at additional
sessions. Tickets are $25 which includes a nightcap at the club, and are available on our website.
Save the date!
Plans are currently underway for our Cabaret Sauvignon gala fundraising event on the 19th of
October. This will be a fantastic event to raise money for our building project. More details to come.
...which leads us on to the building plans. The current stage of design and development is finished
and the committee are happy with the designs. Now the real hard work begins where we kick into
action to get major funding to get through the next stage of design and on to actually turning some

dirt over! If you are interested in viewing the plans, please get in contact with me and I can arrange
a time to go through them. If you have any ideas for fundraising or just wish to donate a large sum
of money, please let us know.
Don't forget business as usual, My Fair Lady is happening in June. Keep up with the usual places for
more information to come.
Finally, a quote from our friend Oscar Wilde: I love acting. It is so much more real than life.
So true... See you at the Rep!

Our People
The members of the Rep Club are a very diverse group, coming from all walks of life, to give of their
time and talents for the enjoyment of others and as enrichment for themselves. Paul Andinach is a long-time
member who has played a variety of roles on and off stage.
I first stepped out onto the Rep Club stage, more years ago than I
like to recall, as a member of the Junior Rep Club, the predecessor
to our present-day Youth Theatre group. I was in the Junior Rep
for several years, appearing in roles ranging from a charming
prince to a conniving witch doctor to an ex-court-jester who kept
getting in trouble for his terrible puns (a role which, I’m sure
anyone who knows me will confirm, is very different from my real
self). I even got to appear in a proper Rep Club production, when
the Junior Rep kids played schoolchildren in Under Milk Wood.
After leaving the Junior Rep, I continued to be involved in theatre
through high school and university. A highlight was appearing in
the school musical Henry, in which I played a court jester who
kept getting in trouble for his terrible puns (a role which, I’m sure
anyone who knows me will confirm, is very different from my real self). In the university dramatic society, I
branched out from acting (i.e. I stopped getting cast in things because there were so many better actors
around), and got my first proper taste of backstage skills like sound and lighting.
After I graduated university, I returned to Kalgoorlie and it wasn’t long before I rejoined the Rep Club. I’ve
been a member ever since, appearing in roles ranging from a career criminal to an absent-minded father to a
nerd with strange hobbies and dubious social skills (a role which, I’m sure anyone who knows me will
confirm, is very different from my real self). In 2011, I had my first lead role, in the Club’s 80th anniversary
production, The Playboy of the Western World. The following year I directed a play for the first time. As well as
the directing, I’ve done several other backstage roles, including stage manager, sound, and lighting.
One particular thing I’m grateful to the Rep Club for is the opportunity it’s offered to appear in productions
of some of my favourite musicals. I’ve bought strange and interesting plants in Little Shop of Horrors, shown
my true colours in Cabaret, been ignored by everyone in Chicago, picked a pocket or two in Oliver!, and made
the final of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. This year, I will be teaching the English how to speak
as Professor Henry Higgins in My Fair Lady.

Our History Part 5
Club activities lapsed during the war until 1949, when some former members called a meeting and a
committee was formed, headed by Senator Seddon Vincent as President. “See how they run” was
produced in 1948 and Agatha Christie’s “Ten Little Niggers” in 1949, directed jointly by Freida
Vincent and Ruth Blown.
A Drama Festival of Australia was held in 1951, with an entrant from each state to compete for the
position of overall winner. Entrants from Country Clubs were to be judged in a state competition in
Perth. The final test would be between the metropolitan winner and the winner of the country
section. Nancy Hobson, who was President at that time, decided to produce the play “Night must
Fall”.
The play was well under way when it became known that the club was entitled to submit a second
play if they wished. A few members were keen to take advantage of this and set about producing
“Ladies in Retirement”. As most members were involved in
the first play the Vincents had to engage people from outside
the club – all of whom later became members.
“Ladies in Retirement” gained second place in the country
section thus moving to Perth to compete in the final (2 City
and 2 Country). It gained 1st place, becoming the entrant to
represent Western Australia in the Australian Drama
Festival to be held in Hobart.
Under the patronage of the Mayor Sir Richard Moore, the
production played at the Kalgoorlie Town Hall for a week,
proceeds to go towards expenses for the team to go to
Tasmania. At the final judging, “Ladies in Retirement” was
judged fourth and member Nancy Jamieson won the award
of “Best Supporting Actress”. The West Australian, 19/11/1951
