What is a PST file

In Microsoft Outlook, PST is a file format used to store all the information of copies of messages, calendar events, and other items within Microsoft.

But sometimes, it might be possible that your MS Outlook does not function properly or may display error messages.

while starting

What is OUTCMD.DAT

Outlook uses a single configuration file which is termed as OUTCMD.DAT for Data and information of files. This file stores the data about the toolbars and menus and reflects all the changes the user made on the Outlook default toolbars and menus.


How to restore Outlook:

• Exit Outlook

• Locate the OUTCMD.DAT file

• If you are using Windows XP and you installed MS Outlook on its default path, you can find file in "C:\Documents and Settings\-USER-\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook",

where "-USER-" if the name of your Windows login account. If not, then search your local disk for the filename


The steps to restore the OUTCMD.DAT file of Outlook are as follows:


Note : location of .PST file may vary in different versions of MS Outlook

• Rename OUTCMD.DAT file to a different filename

• Restart Outlook

It restores the default OUTCMD.DAT file from scratch. Outlook is

now restored back to its default view settings
