Chief of Army Intelligence Lt. Gen. Mary Legere is the leading candidate for the Defense Intelligence Agency as the current Pentagon spy director abruptly announced his retirement Wednesday but it won't be smooth sailing for Legere, whose $28 billion failing Army software program has been at the center of controversy on Capital Hill.House Armed Services Committee member Rep. Duncan Hunter, a California Republican, sent a letter to Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel and Director of National Intelligence Thursday warning that Legere's possible nomination will not be met without a fight. The letter, obtained by TheBlaze, states that the possible nomination of Legere "hold principal responsibility for failing to deliver urgent capabilities to the warfighter and overseeing initiatives that have repeatedly failed to meet budget and schedule requirements."
