GUIDING BELIEFS

• The time listed for the discipline does not mean that the live lesson needs to last that long. We clearly understand many students cannot stay focused on a Chromebook for that long. Live lesson length is at the discretion of the teacher.

**Note: The High School schedule will remain the same in Distance Learning as when we meet in person. The format and design of a Distance Learning lesson will consist of a mix of live teacher lesson, activities, introduction, and closure/wrap-up.
Hybrid One • Pre K – 8 students are in school
• Grades 9 & 10 are in for a week then distance learning for the opposite week
• Grades 11 & 12 start with distance learning then go in for a week
Key Factors: • Space seating/desks at least 3/6 feet apart when feasible.
• Desks to face same direction, or Students sit on only one side of tables, spaced apart.
• Provide physical guides, such as decals on floors or sidewalks and signs on walls, to
ensure staff and children remain at least 6 feet apart at all times.
• Masks are worn in Grades 3-12; Shields will be provided for Pre K - Grade 2 students
• Screenings done at home and in school
Distance Learning is always an option for those families who choose not to send their child(ren)
Hybrid Two
• Pre- K – 8 All classes/grade levels are cut in half
• High School will be one grade at a time for a week rotation
• Teachers are in school instructing the students who are there. The other students will join the class via Google Meet
• Projectors are being installed (ceiling) in all middle school classes
Distance Learning is always an option for those families who choose not to send their child(ren)
All In Person Instruction

that staff and children remain at least 6 feet apart in lines and at other times.
• Masks are worn 3-12; Shields will be provided for PreK- 2 students
• Parent Screening at home

Special Education
• We plan to invite the following special education classes into school as much as possible:
• Mrs. LaFleur’s Pre School and Pre-K Classes (Pocasset)
• Mrs. Katz’s Pre School and Pre-K Classes (Ranger)
• Mrs. Penner’s Class (Ranger)
• Ms. McBrier’s Class (Ft. Barton)
• Mrs. Antunes’ Class (Ft. Barton)
• Mrs. Rose’s Class (Pocasset)
• Mrs. Gray’s Class (TMS)
• Ms. Cavanaugh’s Class (TMS)
• Ms. Link’s Class (THS)
If the district or school goes to partial or distance learning, special education school-based services will be considered when local and state officials will permit students (i.e. Individual or small group) to participate in educational activities within the school building. This will be determined on an individual basis and with parent collaboration.
Identifying Instructional Gaps
• We recognize that each mode of learning is different, and students will respond to instruction differently depending on the modality.
• Last spring, all teachers engaged in an analysis of the instructional gaps we experienced due to our unexpected switch to distance learning. This data was shared grade-to- grade and will be referenced as teachers plan together.
• This year, we are able to be more strategic. Teachers will provide students the support and instruction needed to ensure they possess key skills and knowledge for long term success.
Key Strategies to Prevent Learning Loss
• Use universal screenings of social emotional skills, math, and reading
• Address students’ social and emotional well-being first
• Plan for comprehensive formative assessment
• Address previously identified gaps as teach this year’s curriculum
• Ensure teachers have time to meet in professional learning communities to collaborate and discuss concepts needing to be taught or reinforced
• Leverage high quality tools that work across learning models
(e.g. Newsela, Lexia)
Investing in Professional Development • Through surveys and meetings with our Committee on Professional Learning, Tiverton has created a strong program to meet the learning needs of our staff. • Specifically in August:
• All staff will receive training in safety protocols • All teachers will receive trainings regarding supporting children who are dealing
with trauma, and deescalating student’s negative behaviors. • All administrators will be trained in Restorative Practices.
• Additionally: • Elementary staff will receive deep ongoing training on leveraging technology to
deliver high quality instruction (our middle and high school staff received this last year).
• High school and middle school staff will receive a course on Instructional Practices that Maximize Student Achievement.
• SEL staff will continue their work to implement restorative practices & social emotional supports for our children.
Transportation • Masks All staff and students on the bus, regardless of age, are required to wear masks at all times. Exemptions for students due to medical and/or behavioral reasons – and associated protocols.
• Distance Students should be seated no more than one student per bench, alternating sides for each row, which allows students to maintain approximately 3 feet of physical distance. Children from the same household may sit together and in closer proximity (e.g., two students per bench). Max 23/24 on bus
• Ventilation Keep windows open at all times during operation, unless not possible due to extreme weather conditions.
• Seat assignments Students should be assigned to a single bus and a particular seat.
• Bus monitors A bus monitor will be assigned to every bus for our elementary and Middle school runs to ensure strict adherence to these health and safety guidelines.
