INSPECT YOUR APARTMENT!!!

It is very important that you inspect your apartment upon move-in, and make detailed notes on any damages or irregularities you find. This can make the difference between a full or partial security deposit refund when you move out. Make sure you: Inspect the apartment upon

move in and make detailed notes on its condition. Your landlord may provide you with a form, or use the Apartment Condition Report in the Tenant Guide.

Take pictures of any existing damages.

Give a copy of the damage checklist and any pictures to your landlord, and keep copies for your records.

Keep all documentation in a central location, including your lease and any dated communication with your landlord, so you can access it easily when necessary.

It’s June 1st – do you know where your lease is?

Make sure you obtain a signed copy of your lease if you do not already have one! Keep it in a safe place. If a problem arises, you want to make sure you have a copy of the lease you signed.

You may not own the place where you live, but you still need insurance protection. Renters insurance is for anyone who rents a home, be it a house or an apartment. Renters insurance can protect your personal property against fire, theft and vandalism. It also helps protect theft-prone valuables like your laptop and bike - wherever you take them.

If something like a fire makes your home uninhabitable, renters insurance can cover the increased costs of a place to live until you can move back in.

Renters insurance can help protect you in case of a liability lawsuit against you. This could occur in a situation where you are held responsible for injury to another person or damage to another person's property, whether the incident occurred within your rented residence, or elsewhere.

Program these numbers into your cell phone!
