I am a resident, educator, researcher and advocate for Northern Canada. I have also been engaged internationally with University of the Arctic colleagues most recently engaging in a research relationship with colleagues from Northern Norway. We hosted a group of UArctic scholars on our campus three years ago and in March of 2014 we hosted another group to build research connections between us. Most recently, in September of this year, I was part of a CanadianNorth Norway trade mission to Tromso. In sum, we have an active and growing connection with University of the Arctic members. Within my own region and as Dean of the Faculty, I have been active in leading the creating of an Inuktitut language supportive B.Ed. Program for the Nunatsiavut Government. We expect similar programs and other graduate programs will be extended to other residents in the region as well. We are also organizing the 3 rd Annual Symposium on Indigenous Teacher Education in Labrador this year. We will have participation in this event of Norwegian and Sami representatives as well as Peoples from Nunavut and Labrador. I understand I may be expected to fund part of all of my travel related to this committee’s work and, as Dean, I have the funds needed. On a personal note, and as per item 3 of the nomination call, I am a Canadian, male, of Mi’kmaq ancestry, and my daughters are Inuit. My role includes observation of lessons, provision of feedback, and evaluation of teaching performance in consultation with the classroom teacher and the school principal. World Bank funded Lebanese Educator Development Project (2005-2007): Served and trainer for Lebanese school directors while they were on project related study tours in Calgary, Alberta.

5.12 Other Evidence of Research Accomplishments 2011-Present (Anderson, K., Park, B., and Blake, H.). Success factors for novice teachers. A five

year study into the success and experiences of new teachers. This study started in 2008 [I replaced Dr. David Dibbon as Principal Investigator as of September 2011].

2011-Present (Anderson, K. and Hanrahan, M.). Indigenizing the academy: Change agency

within the academic community. This is a two-person refection of change efforts led by two scholars of Aboriginal Ancestry as they work from their respective roles to lead change within the academic to advance the success for Aboriginal interests.

2009-2013 (Anderson, K., Brien, K., NcNamara, G., O’Hara, J., and McIsacc, D.) Reluctance

factors in leadership graduates as aspiring administrators. An international study of the reluctance factors of potential principals. While exposed to either university or field based programs, potential leaders are not pursuing opportunities for principal positions-why? The answers are to be found in the following questions: How many are out there? Why are they not coming forward (reluctance factors)? How can they be encouraged to come forward? At CASEA 2009 (Ottawa) we presented a paper on our initial thoughts and findings on this research as an ongoing process before submitting our final paper to a peer review journals in 2010 and 2011. There is one possible paper coming from this research.

2009-2013 (Hirschorn, M. and Anderson, K.) Success’ and beginning teacher self-efficacy: A

tale of two universities. An affirmative inquiry into efficacy building in the

practicum for student teachers. New data from the University of New Brunswick will be used in a comparative analysis with a similar study of the success experiences of students from the University of Saskatchewan (Anderson, Walker, and Ralph 2009). There is one paper under review based on this research.

2002-Present (Anderson, K. et al.) International Beginning Principals Study: A study involving

researchers from Europe, Canada and the United States. The study is, as the title indicates, researching and publishing valuable information related to the context of the neophyte principal in 6 countries.

2010-2011 Tompkins, J., Orr, A., and Anderson, K. A study of immersion programs for

Tobigue and Eskasoni supported by the Atlantic Policy Congress of First Nations Chiefs (withdrew effective May 2010 due to promotion to Associate Dean UNB and related workload realignment).

2005-2011 (Anderson, K., Goddard, T., and Epp, W.) Writing Our Way Home: Lessons

Learned From International Development Projects: The purpose of this study is to examine the success factors and conditions of school change initiatives of schools, and school leaders in post conflict settings, such as schools in Kosovo, and other regions. Post conflict reforms using successful schools by exemplar models have not been well studied and there have been few published articles that describe them in any detail. Project will end with publication of special edition book July 2009.

2005-2010 (Anderson, K. ed.) The Leadership Compendium Project: A project that involves

the work of key emergent scholars in Canada, as nominated by established and pre-eminent Canadian scholars. These emergent scholars are new professors and recent graduates from doctoral programs in Canada. The objective of the project is to produce a compendium of the current and future major leadership issues facing Canadian schools. Project will ends with publication of an edited book in January 2010. The book is called The Leadership Compendium: Emerging Scholars in Canadian School Based Leadership.

2003-2004 International External Course Consultant-Developer: Appointed as an external

consultant to assist in the development of graduate courses in educational leadership and organization for the Faculty of Education of the Koper School of Management, Slovenia.

2001-2002 Healthy Living Assessment: Participated as a school partner in a research project

on the lifestyles of teenage students. This project lasted one year and a report was presented to a cross section of government representatives with policy recommendations for schools in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador.

1999-2002 Doctoral Thesis Research: The Antecedents and Nature of Teacher Leadership in

Schools. This is a study of six schools noted for successful school improvement practices and high-density teacher leadership. The study builds on research being conducted at the Centre for Leadership at OISE/UT (Ontario Institute for Studies in Education of the University of Toronto) focusing on teacher leadership.

1999-2001 Schools of Northern Canada and Labrador: Theory and Policy Studies

Department, OISE/UT: This is a study of the characteristics of schools in the new Canadian territory of Nunavut (formerly part of the North West Territories) and

Northern Labrador (Nunatsiavut) which is part of the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. These areas are in Arctic and near Arctic with populations that are almost completely Aboriginal (Inuit).

1998-1999 Action Research: Training with Pre-service Teachers

Norwest Option, OISE/UT. In this role I assisted pre-service elementary teachers with their action research projects as part of their practicum.

1986-1997 NASSP Assessment Project: Piloted the development of Canadian norms for

student attitude surveys for the National Association of Secondary School Principals in conjunction with the Canadian Association of Principals. Graduate Project: A Study of ‘Performance Appraisal Practices’ for 7 school districts in Newfoundland and Labrador.
