The City of Brampton aims to ensure that all dogs and cats in Brampton are licensed, as required by the municipal Animal Control By-law.
WHY SHOULD YOU LICENSE YOUR PET?• Licensed pets have a better chance of getting home compared to unlicensed pets. If your dog or cat gets lost, their licence is immediately visible and shows that they are not homeless.
• A licence is the fastest way for someone to contact you. This is especially important if your pet is hit by a car or otherwise injured.
• If a licensed pet comes into the shelter, we can get them home to you quickly. They’ll spend less time in the shelter, which minimizes their stress levels – and yours.
• Not only does a licence help your pet, it helps other animals too. The money collected from licences helps us care for the animals that come through the shelter doors every day.
ACCIDENTS HAPPEN“But my dog never leaves my side – he’ll never go missing!”
“I have an indoor cat – how can she go missing if she never goes outside?”
We’ve heard it all. No one thinks their pet will ever go missing, but it only takes a moment for an indoor cat to slip outside, or for that well-trained dog to be spooked by something and run. Accidents happen, so why take a chance?
DID YOU KNOW?• All dogs and cats must be licensed with the City each calendar year.
• Dogs and cats must not be allowed to run at large or trespass on private property.
• Pet owners are required to clean up after their dogs and cats.
• Each household is allowed a maximum of three dogs and six cats.
• Dogs must be leashed in public, except in designated leash-free areas. Brampton has four leash-free dog parks – visit brampton.ca/animalservices for locations.
