A new state model released yesterday also shows that with Kern County COVID-19 cases on the rise, Kernisexpectedtoexceedits78ICUbedcapacity ass oonasJ uly. Kern is looking to increase the number ofICU beds to 294 as a part of its surge plan, but the model still indicates that Kern will surpass thatexpanded capacity by November. The model also predicts Kern County won’t see its overall peakinICU hospitalizationsuntil February2021at 436projectedhospitalizations. As we have seen for the past several months, these models shift based on our behaviors and based on thenatureoftheviralspread. During a briefing, Kern Public Health issued a strong reminder to residents to continuesocial distancing, hygienepractices, andwearingoffacecoverings.
