The team manages the website’s information architecture, provides expertise in usability, content, design and functionality, and develops new channels and digital applications that support strategic goals and meet end-user needs. The Web and Digital Developer is responsible for front-end development of websites and digital applications to create user experiences that are engaging, rewarding, dynamic and reputation-enhancing. OVERVIEW OF THE SCHOOL / DEPARTMENT AND POSITION CONTEXT Marketing and Communications is a professional service unit responsible for communicating the University’s values and messages in ways that target audiences – including prospective students, current students, staff, alumni, donors and external influencers – notice and understand, and which prompt them to action.

Marketing and Communications comprises four functional areas to service the University and its faculties:

4. Under the guidance of the Web and Digital Development Manager and the Senior Web Developer, work with the Digital Producers and clients to determine requirements for websites and digital applications and to ensure that work produced meets strategic requirements.

5. Ensure work is delivered within agreed timeframes. Ongoing

6. Audit, test and provide compliance guidelines for websites and digital applications in accordance with agreed mark-up, design and usability and accessibility standards. Ongoing

7. Write technical documentation for websites and digital applications developed. Ongoing

8. Keep up to date with new and emerging technologies and programs as well as best practice in web and digital development. Ongoing

9. Work collaboratively with colleagues in the Marketing and Communications and ICT to ensure that strategic goals are achieved. Ongoing

10. Develop effective and supportive relationships with staff at all levels across the University and maintain a customer-focussed approach in the delivery of services. Ongoing

DECISION MAKING AND DELEGATIONS OF AUTHORITY The Web and Digital Developer operates with some degree of autonomy in the context of their agreed work plan under guidelines established with the Web and Digital Development Manager. Discretion to innovate within those guidelines and within own function to design, develop and maintain websites and web applications. Where a person is designated Head of Administrative Unit (HOA), the Delegations of Authority - Administrative Rule applies.

EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS CRITERIA ESSENTIAL DESIRABLE

Demonstrated experience as a web developer designing, developing and deploying websites and digital applications. 9

Strong HTML4, HTML5, XHTML, CSS and Javascript programming skills. 9

Experience with a broad range of technologies used in web development such as XSL, XML, JSON, AJAX, Ruby and MVC. 9

Knowledge of cross browser testing and relevant W3C standards, including WAI-ARIA. 9

Experience developing object-oriented Javascript, particularly using intermediate languages such as CoffeeScript and frameworks such as JQuery. 9

Experience developing object-oriented CSS, particularly using intermediate languages such as SASS or LESS. 9

Experience developing and interfacing service-side APIs to produce dynamic and rich end-user web applications. 9

Demonstrated ability to design and develop user interfaces and user interface components to meet client, usability and accessibility requirements. 9

Well developed organisational skills with the capacity to manage competing priorities, maintain attention to detail and to meet deadlines. 9

Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, negotiation, analytical and problem solving skills. 9

Experience working in a large complex environment in either the public or private sector. 9

Tertiary qualifications in computer science, IT, engineering or multimedia design or demonstrated equivalent relevant professional experience. 9
