1. Introduction The Remote Data Uploader (RDU) offers a simple, cost effective and efficient procedure to transfer your airline’s QAR data to your FDM/FOQA/FDA system. Designed for simple operation with minimal training and oversight required for your maintenance personnel, the RDU uses a multi-card reader for streamlined transfer of the PCMCIA flash cards. The data is available for processing within minutes1.

1 Transfer times depend on the amount of data on the PCMCIA cards and speed of internet access.

2. Specifications • Locked-down Windows 7 Pro (users can only access the automated RDU

functions) • Ruggedized secured laptop tested on flight line. • Ethernet connection for principle data transmission • Data can be binary de:identified while transmit over secure connection* • Optional LTE cellular modem for internet access failover • Custom-built 1, 4, 8 or 12 PCMCIA ATA Flash Card readers in ruggedized

enclosure • Supported Communications Protocols : SFTP, SCP, FTP2 • Currently Supported DAR/QAR media *

o PCMCIA from Sagem (ED49, ED48, ED35, ED36) o PCMCIA from Teledyne OQAR/WQAR recording format (from Teledyne

FDIMU, MFDAU, iDMU, WQAR, PCMCIA QAR) o PCMCIA from Honeywell FDAMS DFDAU

• Engineering services available to support new card types and server side processing, (Eg. L3 microQAR, Avionica miniQAR)

• Customer must provide sample card from each recorder type for testing and validation.

• *Since this is a dataframe specific work task this option is an additional cost.

3. Data Flow The RDU data process is as follows:

1. Copy contents of the PCMCIA card to the local RDU disk 2. Check for Tail Registration and if unavailable enable registration entry 3. Erase PCMCIA card, condition card and signal availability for return to service 4. Automatic identification of problem cards and suggest handling process 5. Compression of flight data transmission 6. Transmit compressed flight data to SFTP server 7. Automatic generation of card download statistics 8. SFTP server receives data 9. SFTP server decompresses data and copies to FOQA file server 10. FOQA software analyzes the data

For PCMCIA cards pulled from the aircraft every 1 to 10 days, the data will be immediately copied, compressed and transmitted to the FOQA office (typically data

2 FTP recommended only for communications within corporate VPN

arrived within 30 minutes to one hour), depending on the number of simultaneous card inserts the amount of data on each card and the speed of the internet access point. Key benefits:

1. A single hardware and software solution allows for the handling of multiple manufacturers types/formats on one single hardware solution.

2. Check for Tail Registration and if unavailable enable registration entry 3. Erase PCMCIA card, condition card and signal availability for return to service 4. Automatic identification of problem cards and suggest handling process 5. Compression of flight data transmission 6. Transmit compressed flight data to SFTP server 7. Automatic generation of card download statistics 8. SFTP server receives data 9. SFTP server decompresses data and copies to FOQA file server 10. FOQA software analyzes the data

A single hardware and software solution allows for the handling of multiple manufacturers types/formats on one single hardware solution which is simple for the user to operate. Quick Reference Card advises Operator on next action should questions arise. Maintenance personnel are guided by simple intuitive on-screen prompts. The only physical interaction with the RDU are cards insert/ejects and on-screen prompts, as shown in 4.
